The renowned battleship USS Missouri is about to be decommissioned, and a grand ceremony is planned, with the President in attendance. Coincidentally, it's also the birthday of the ship's captain. The ship's cook, Petty Officer Casey Ryback (Steven Seagal), is busy preparing the celebratory meal. However, the disagreeable Executive Officer, Commander Krill, clashes with Ryback and confines him to a freezer. A group of entertainers arrives on board, and during their performance, they, along with Krill, suddenly seize control of the Missouri. Among the entertainers is William Strannix (Tommy Lee Jones), a former CIA operative with extensive knowledge of naval vessels. He collaborates with Krill to obtain the launch codes for the ship's nuclear-armed Tomahawk missiles. The military is stunned by this act of terrorism and struggles to respond effectively. Meanwhile, Ryback escapes from the freezer and becomes their only hope to thwart the hijackers and regain control of the battleship.
