Social worker Emily Jenkins (Renée Zellweger) and Detective Mike Barron (Ian McShane) arrive just in time to save Lillith (Jodelle Ferland) from her parents (Callum Keith Rennie and Kerry O'Malley). They wanted to kill the little girl by locking her in the oven.

This happened to a girl in my town a couple decades ago.. two houses down from my grandparents house. The parents were religious nuts and all day they blasted religious music pissing off the neighbors then in the evening they put their little girl in the oven. Her sister let her out so the parents beat both of them, made the girl get back in the oven, put a chair against the door and made the sister sit on the chair until it was over. Someone wrote a book about it a few years later. Truly horrific.

The girl (Lilith) was a demon who caused many deaths. The woman who saved her finally killed her.
