I came across Dido Belle through the wonderful portrait of her. She looks so full of life, beautiful and with such a glint of mischief in her eyes I suspect she would have been a most captivating person to know. Thank you for the wider back story about her. Really informative.

Dido's mother was Maria Bell. She got rpdd by Sir John Lindsay at 14 and gave birth to Dido at 15. John Lindsay was 25 at the time. SMH🤔 The age gap and rp were sickening to say the least

What an amazing woman!
And the fact that she navigated such a precarious world as well as she did....
I would love to go back in history to her time just to chat with her.
So many fascinating people that inspire us with their stories both great and small.
Can you imagine talking with Julius Caesar for an hour?
I can...
Fodder for daydreams

Dido couldn't do something as simple as eat with the family but she was viewed as Elizabeth's equal. Right, Paula. 🙄

What a tumultuous biography!!! I remember seeing the movie about Dido Belle a number of years ago. But this video really has educated me about what her life was like. ❤

I think I read about a ward of Queen Victoria who happened to be a little black girl from Africa. She was also given the privilege of a royal upbringing without being royal herself. I'd like a video about her story, please, if possible. 🤔

Wonderfully made video. Dido's life reminded me of the history of Creoles of French Louisiana. Thank you for teaching about her interesting life.

After I saw the portrait of Dido Belle with Lady Elizabeth Murray for the very first time I tried to learn everything I could find about her. Even though her family treated her with kindness it must’ve rankled her to know that the only thing that was different about her life from the rest of the circle of society that her family moved in was the color of her skin. Dido was probably smarter than most of the people who looked down on her for being biracial. Do you know if she had any dealings with William Wilberforce and his anti slavery group? She would certainly have been a help to their cause.
