Belle Movie CLIP - Hair Combing (2014) - Gugu Mbatha-Raw Movie HD

BELLE is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay (Matthew Goode). Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet her status prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing. While her cousin Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) chases suitors for marriage, Belle is left on the sidelines wondering if she will ever find love. After meeting an idealistic young vicar's son bent on changing society, he and Belle help shape Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

Such a powerful and poignant scene. Dido misses so much without a mother.

The moment you learn it's not a matter of having "bad hair" just needs a little guidance on how to manage it....

I didn't know when I sat down to watch this movie that black women had written and directed it but guessed it immediately when I saw this scene. It's just not something anyone else would have thought about.

I don’t know why that scene brought tears to my eyes…but it did. Very beautiful connection, with few words, but looks of understanding, and the gentle, reassuring and loving gesture of brushing her hair…

Im so glad a Black woman directed this film. Its little details like this that are EXTREMELY important especially when it relates to black culture. Dido almost seemed ashamed and embarrassed when Mabel was around but after this moment, they developed a bond. I also love how her cousin stood by observing as well in a state of curiosity... Such a beautiful film. ❤🙏🏽

Different hair requires different tools, techniques, and potions.

What we won’t do is try to comb your hair with that small little comb 🙄
