Humans forget that we are both predator and prey. We have prey instincts for a reason and we shouldn't ignore them.

Hiking in a remote part of Eastern KY with my dog who was absolutely fearless, as we neared a large cave, I felt something that stopped me in my tracks. I looked over at my dog and he was looking at me. I said, let's get out of here and we both left in a fast walk. Always trust your gut instinct

I used to be a trail runner, by myself. I loved the feeling of freedom. One day I’m running through the forest and start feeling like I’m not alone. I come across clothes and shoes on a large rock, no one in sight- for some reason the clothes gave a very bad feeling of danger. I turned my run back around and sprinted out of the Forrest and never ran like that by myself again. I joined a large running group.

We are about a straight line mile off the main road in the mountains. 3 weeks ago the fog was so thick you couldn't see off the porch. As evening fell we heard whistling, like your parents do when you are young to get your attention while playing. It was coming from up the hill near the hot springs and lasted about half an hour. The dogs didn't like it one bit and wanted in the house. My grandfather told us if you hear whistling at night in the woods, don't whistle back and don't go out to investigate. You lock the place down and wait for day light. Plenty of strange things in the woods.

Something happened to me one day at a place not far from Baysville, Ontario, Canada. I was going through sheds of various antiques in a backyard. As I got closer to the end of these many sheds, I could see a huge forest.
All of a sudden, I started to feel as if I was being pulled into the woods, almost like a magnet and I just quickly got out of there, never went back.

Kevin, I don’t understand why people wouldn’t believe you.I’ve been in different woods you can feel when something’s not right.Plenty times I’ve heard things and didn’t see it, but I knew to get out of there.

Any strange weird growl or baby crying/ woman screaming is typically panthers or mountain lions. They make all sorts of crazy sounds. The crying 100% sounded like a crying fawn here or a bird

The woods (and other wildernesses) don't 'belong' to us in the way that cities do. When we walk into the woods we become intruders in a pitiless ecosystem that we don't completely understand. A little humility goes a long way.

The freakiest sound in the forest is a bobcat walking around your tent at night. Specifically on dry snow or leaves. They walk with both left then both right. Sounds like a bipedal person walking around your tent at night.

I heard it on my headphones. High volume. And I love how the 1st thing you said was to pick up the dog ❤️🐶💕

I’m an audio engineer, so I’d like to think I have pretty trained ear, and I can hear it perfectly. It’s a low grumble.

I believe you. As a former backpacker, I've had creepy gut instincts that I did heed. But the memories still make my skin crawl.

In the summer of 1962, I was 8 years old. Our neighbors from TX came to OH for a short visit. We all went to Stanberry Park (in the Mt. Washington area of greater Cincinnati). My friend and I were soon in deep woods. Although my parent's home backed up to an open woods, I'd never seen canopies like we saw that day. Suddenly, out of nowhere, in the middle of the day, we heard a roar/scream, the likes of which I have never heard since. People have suggested that maybe it was teenagers with a tape player. They did not make anything portable in 1962 that could make a noise anywhere even close to that. (Besides possibly the military, and that type of power would have required at least a car battery. Maybe several. Those were the days of tube amplifiers, which were also large and quite heavy.) It was like a wall of Marshall Amps before they made such a thing. Whatever we heard was a very real animal with a lung capacity and vocal cords like nothing I've ever heard since. This was louder than a lion. It was so loud that it shook our insides. It seemed like it was only 20 feet away. We turned around and starting walking faster and faster, and were soon in a full sprint. We ran until we were finally back out in an open field, then we looked back. As beautiful a place that Stanberry was in 1962, I never went back.

Kevin, I was solo hiking up Holland Peak in Montana, October of 2022. I was above the tree line and struggling with the loose rock field and made the decision to go back down for safety. I was back in the trees and stopped for a sandwich while enjoying a beautiful view. The woods were eerily quiet that day, I didn't see any animals. No wind. Very still.
As I sat eating my sandwich an incredibly loud roar came from behind me. My hair stood on end. I turned around and saw nothing but an outcrop and trees. I could not see any source for this.
I was still a good 3 hours to the trailhead. I truly believe this was something evil. I decided to stand my ground, said out loud, "I am finishing my sandwich, you will not dictate my day!"
I did and continued down the trail without any further encounter.
There is no doubt in my mind that there are things in the deep woods we don't understand. I was fortunate that day, perhaps lucky.
Since then, I continue to backpack. I did a fifty mile backcountry trip in Glacier this past summer without fear. But if you asked me to go back k up Holland Peak again, I would decline.

I worked at a golf course surrounded by houses. I was up and working before the sun. I had a sense i was being watched. Scanned the area with my head light. Ding ding a mountian lion was watching me. Hopped in my cart and drove right atit. Then went to another area to work.

I mountain biked at Swatera State park. There is one section that gets dark. No birds or noises. You get this crazy feeling something is watching you. You would catch glimpses of shadows behind trees. The hair stands up on your neck. I asked another biker if he ever had weird feelings and he said “Oh yeh, in the weird pine area, I see shadow people”

I greatly appreciate your testimony and those that everyone else is giving. I don’t have time to share my own story in detail right now so I will say in short, me and two other people witnessed something sprint straight past us, we could have touched it, it was very dark outside but we could see how tall it was, how fast, how heavy, it sprinted on two legs and then dropped to four. It initially came out of some sand dune shrubs to our left, very dense shrubs, and we never heard it moving through them till it came crashing out. When it sprinted past us it crashed into the forest’s brush to our right, and similar to how it appeared it seemed to evaporate when it crashed into the bushes because there was no more sound. I could write a whole essay detailing just the encounter alone and why we are so certain it was not ‘just an animal’. We were all skeptics and scoffers at that time. No longer. Simply undeniable.
