Bear sightings forcing a change of plans in Sierra Madre

The city of Sierra Madre has canceled an outdoors community event due to recent bear sightings. KTLA's Jacqueline Sarkisian reports. Sept. 15, 2023.

My sister and her family lived near Lake Tahoe, little small town, and they woke up few times to the sounds of bear going through the trash can. Even the one time I was visiting Lake Tahoe itself, while I didn’t see it but several miles away from our hotel, one bear decided it wanted to take a nap on top of someone’s car in a small store parking lot.

People living near the hills haven’t learned they live in bear country. Live with it just like any other community where bears reside they co-exist.

In my area this time of year in Canada we see mom's and cubs coming into town in really good condition (the berry crop has just fattened them up for winter). My unsubstantiated theory is as the really large males get into the fall feeding frenzy (and grumpy) the mom's come into town for a few flower bulbs by donation. Relax. It's all in nature's plan.
