It's been a long time since we have seen a new hardware product from Remarkable, but today is one of those rare days. They have just announced a new accessory for the Remarkable 2, the Type Folio. It costs 200 USD and its launch availability was botched, but if you want to type on the Remarkable 2, this is currently the only way to do it. So let's dive in deep and see what's it like and if is this a product for you or not.

Thank you for watching and if you liked the video, like and subscribe :)

As a Product Manager I'd love to have users like you that tell me what is missing and even (this is crazy!) provide exact instructions how to implement that. Well done!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wonderful review. As with the tablet, the keyboard looks beautifully designed and manufactured. The cost to me is no worse than anything else. We are being forced to adjust to higher prices for everything we buy and do. So, the question is do you need this device for typing? Each of us has to answer that question for ourself. While I wait for RM to work out their availability issues I have think about that. It certainly expands the uses for the RM2. Right now I use it to make some notes as I would with pad and pen and then store and organize the ones I need to keep. I suppose if you plan to use the device for serious writing then a keyboard makes good sense. Of course, loving tech gadgets as I do, I will probably find a way to rationalize buying one. It is an attractive product.

Brother i say i really like you expanding to reviewing other things (phones, watches, etc.) too. I have seen no reviews like yours, utter perfection!

I'm not whether to give a thumbs up or down on this video. It was a great review of the device, very thorough as usual. Unfortunately, you've now convinced me that I need to somehow find the money (and in CAD, too) to buy one because this looks really nice 🤣

I am a fan of the folio. I love it despite the weight. The quality of the keyboard is great. I got it in a few days.

I spoke to soon with my comment! 😂 I'm glad you mentioned what we pay in Canada! If I go to the US site and fill my cart with the RM2, marker plus and new keyboard type Folio, it comes out to $627USD or $861CAD. If I put the same stuff in my cart on the Canadian site it comes out to $1057CAD!! OR $769USD. Why the massive increase!? If I bought a Note Air 2 from Boox's website for $627USD, then I pay the straight conversion rate of $861CAD; this is true on virtually every site I've purchased items from EXCEPT for ReMarkable which likes to create random prices for different regions of the world; its really bizarre

I'm not even interested in this and I just watched the whole thing because it was the most well described and thorough review I've ever seen. I wish more people reviewed products like this.

24:32 Agree with the orientation limitation. It would be nice to have a portrait mode. However, a reliable rotation plate would add more thickness. I think this is a hard trade off. I hope reMarkable have better software updates to make typing better.

I can understand the concept of simplicity to have a single text block in the page. However, more font sizes and smaller margins to allow more text per page will be helpful.

Just for anyone watching this now I just got my type folio. First of all it came through within a week, and secondly you can now navigate menus using arrow keys, enter, and ctrl+w to go up a folder. The opt button seems redundant if windows mode is selected. Maybe some future functionality will be included with this key.
For future updates it would be nice if while navigating files backspace would delete, Ctrl+N would create a new notebook/folder etc.

I ordered one. Having an original Remarkable 2 buyer connect subscription discount makes it more bearable, pricewise.

Did get the message, "We're unfortunately experiencing longer delivery times than usual due to a supply issue. We know you're excited about your order, and we're working hard to get it to you as soon as possible. Sorry to keep you waiting — we’ll send you a new estimated delivery date once we know more."

Can't wait to get it, but who knows when. I'm not upset about the delay; it happens. Hopefully there'll be more information forthcoming soon.

Thank you, as always. (MDO daily user.) I may be in the minority, but your review snapped me out of what had been my reflexive response to purchase the Type Folio. Admittedly, it looks very cool on first blush, and it's an engineering accomplishment. But...I don't want to take notes in landscape mode. And it does bother me that the screen bezel is not centered for typing. As for the added girth, the raised surface will also make the handwriting position less comfortable. While I love my Remarkable 2, there clearly is still room for improvement, and doing so will breed further acceptance of the company's FOCUS credo (without blurring the line between it's product and the laptop market).

I'm just realizing with your introduction which mentions how this doesn't work for the ReMarkable 1; that this may finally be the first significant difference between the ReMarkable 1 and 2. As far as I know both have continued receiving the same software updates, connect, etc. and this keyboard is now finally something more "substantial" that can set apart the two generations.

I still passionately hate the price of it though...😂

i love this review because i'm specifically interested in using the remarkable 2 as a distraction free electronic typewriter!

The closest “competition” in the digital typewriter space is the FreeWrite, which is muuuch more expensive than a rM 2 with pen and folio, so they might take a bite from that market

Also, the rM can detect when the pen is hovering above the display(as noted with a red dot on the screenshare feature), so it seems easy enough to have the failsafes

Kinda wish holding a key will invoke a shortcut for writing, like changing the tools, or better still, holding Option to temporarily switch to Select Eraser

Thank you for this awesome review! Extremely helpful! - Just recently received my Type Folio and have been wondering why I couldn't figure out how to select and move typed text, as you can with other drawn/written objects on the page - Assumed you could do that, but this indeed verified that you cannot simply use the select tool and move typed text objects. This would be a huge improvement, if the team was willing to build that functionality - Add ability to use the select tool to select pieces of text and move, or even resize entire blocks of text. Thank you again for this help (wasn't sure if I was just doing something wrong) - Your reviews are EXTREMELY helpful!

Many thanks Voja for this excellent review (as usual). I'm a big fan !

I ordered mine the very day it was released and got it faster than expected. Lucky me 🙂

A few things I have noticed when trying out this lovable keyboard:

For some reason, they chose to have some key labels in a (not so) light grey color that is hard to see under dimly lit conditions. Maybe not the brightest move...

A few shorcuts and key functions are not documented beside the extended selection capabilities you demonstrate in your review and here are the ones I've found so far:
1. Shift Backspace acts as Suppr
2. Ctrl Backspace deletes the characters before the cursor position till the beginning of the word.
3. Ctrl Shift Backspace suppresses characters from the cursor position till the end of the word.
4. The Tab key affects the bullet lines only (adds one level of indentation and changes the bullet type); It has no effect on normal text, titles and subtitles; I'm missing the usual "Tab" function that is used to align text over several lines allowing to make a nice table; This kind of behavior could be easily implemented using a dedicated "Table" style.
5. Shift Tab key combination unindents the bullet lines, changing them into text lines when reaching the lowest level of indentation (?!); This is kind of inconsistent with the way Tab is working in the other direction (and is a bit distracting ;-).
Feel free to add the ones I may have missed in your replies.

Another strange thing is that the Caps Lock key does not work for non character keys like it does on all the keyboards I know and use ?!
I don't know if this is specific to the French keyboard or not but this is annoying for us french users as typing numbers requires the Shift key to be pressed and I often use the Caps Lock when I have to type several numbers in a row.
Anyway, I hope this will be changed in a future update to provide a seemless (and undistracting ;-) experience when moving from a standard keyboard to the type folio.

Of course I would love to have several text blocks on a single page, with the ability to select, resize and move them around the page as I please; I do hope this will come in a future release.
Numbered lists would also be nice to have, as well as the ability to control character size and line spacing. A simple, yet limited (but non distracting ;-) way to offer this could be to provide several options when selecting the "Text" tool like you have several thicknesses when selecting the "Stroke" tool.
I hope this will also come in a future release together with the ability to manipulate multiple text boxes for example.

Well, that's all for now. Please let me know what you think and keep up the excellent work. Thanks !

Fantastic review! I agree, the handwriting/picture layout, like word does (Inline with text / with wrapping, tight) would be amazing. More flexibility of the typed text would be great also. I asked them about shapes, like rectangles etc so it would be amazing if you could like draw a table, and it would snap to a grid preview, then you could double tab inside a cell, Type in the cell, opposed to what it currently does, (starts typing at the start of the line). They replied to me saying the shapes is a highly requested feature and they are looking into it :)
