I have been IF 18/6 for over 6 months now. I have lost 14 lbs, my skin is clear, my joints no longer hurt, my brain is clearer. However I find fasting for longer than 24 hrs difficult. I have tried many times and felt absolutely awful! Terrible headache, nausea and fatigue. I’m a mum of 4 so I need to be well. I can’t get over that bump so I’m sticking to the 18/6 daily. It works the best for me personally.

I started intermittent fasting back in the 70s by accident. I would eat once a day. Then I would eat every other day.. I did not lie to feel full. Since I have gotten older. I started to eat more. Gained weight. And felt awful iam back. Now. And I feel wonderful.. it works

When talking about how to prepare for fasting, I found that even before trying to go from dinner to breakfast, I think it would be very helpful to start limiting sugar and carbs first. I get horrible cravings if I eat sugar (carbs). So stopping those helps stop the snacking which makes fasting surprisingly easy!

I never ever ever ever thought I woukd be able to fast for even 24 hours. And then one day I said to myself I going to do this!! So I embarked on the lemonade fast (used warm water & celtic salt & only drank water with cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup & lemon) I refer to it as a miracle because even as I reflect on the experience I still cannot believe I completed 15 days!!!
The first 2 days were the most difficult by far. But it was all down hill the next 13 days. I just kept reminding myself of the radical benefits my body was receiving that kept me on track. If I can do it trust me anyone can do it! One important factor to consider. Prior to my 15 day fast I practiced IF for several years. So I want to point out that I did have that experience under my belt beforehand. I wish all of you the best in your journey to better health!

Everyone needs to hear this, especially diabetic people. We need to eat less frequently, eat good fats and protein and no or very little processed carbs. Diabetes creates damage to many of our vital organs. I say this from my family experience.

'Think about why you are fasting' 👍🏻😍 I totally agree. Mindset is the key. You can do everything you set your mind to.

I did a liquid fast once for 21 days. On the 3rd day there is no more solid food in the digestive tract and the cleansing effect is amazing. Everything coming out of your body is liquid. I've Never done it again, but I have done shorter fasts for up to 3 days to feel that cleansing effect. The whole experience made me look at food completely differently, food is for energy and nutrition. What we don't use we store as fat...even nutritional foods.

Cynthia is so well versed and thoughtful when she speaks. I wish I could talk like that in an interview :). Terrific questions that were given to Cynthia.

Love this video. She is very straightforward and educated and informative. I base my diet on 'natural' organic real foods and feel eating a balanced diet and incorporating strength, lifting and muscle endurance exercises in my 40's has literally reversed my aging back to my 20's. I feel it is so important to encourage women especially middle aged and older women to lift weights and do strength training. I have found by slowly incorporating this and increasing my intensity and regularity and increasing my protein, organic vegetables and reducing dairy milk has improved me mentally, physically and seen a good improvement in my physical appearance. I have not completed intermittent fasting as I exercise very intensely and often, but I have cut down my 'snacking' and reduced meals to 2, sometimes 3 a day and feel much better. Structuring them after workouts.
Reducing sugar down to nearly 0, except when required through very heavy workouts has made a good difference. I never was a real sweet tooth but even having lightly flavoured yoghurt feels horribly sweet. I would encourage everyone to gradually cut down on sugar, real and artificial, and only have minimal 'natural' 0 calorie sugars like stevia.

I'm interested in researching more about intermittent fasting and maybe trying it for a day.

I have 2 meals a day and I don’t crave carbs at all but I love my beer! Usually have 2 with dinner, no sweets. Have an active lifestyle bc we live in the country so I keep a healthy weight. At 65, think I finally figured it out…
Thanks for this interview, both of you are amazing 🤩

Excited to hear this. Perfect timing because I’ve recently become curious about how to do this. Thank you. ❤

Eating -> takes energy from your body, feel sleepy/weak after.
Fasting = saving energy, you would usually waste every hours just to eat, when you actually don't need to.
This is big, especially for people that overeat or stress eating.

Thank you for talking about menopause / peri-menopause. How these changes affect women is such a neglected topic, especially regarding dietary choices and stress management. Lewis, thanks for asking about gender differences with fasting. 😊
