Some rare mechanical watches have a complication called a “Dead Beat” seconds function that allows it to tick once per second like a typical quartz watch. But they are very rare and expensive.

It's amazes me how people post completely wrong information, and everyone just buys it without thinking and thanks them for it.
Mechanical tick from the escapement mechanism, quartz use the vibration from the crystal as the drive motor.

The interesting one for me is the mecha-quartz, it has a sweeping hands but it’s quartz (so at least it spare us of second hand missing the mark).

I love quartz, my favorites being my Casio Edifices with Japanese movements and hitting every marker perfectly. 👌🏼

I have a Seiko quartz clock which sweeps. Don’t know how much it’s worth but i bought it off of a boot sale for £3 and it had a name of a CEO of an oil company which was probably given to him on his retirement. It moves like a Rolex. I’ve had it for years and never loses a second.

Love the subtle inclusion of bass during the quartz part

There are also watches that run a electric motor at a low rpm and thus have a nice and smooth sweep

It’s so crazy the amount of intricacy that goes into watch making.

Automatic watches are amazing...
... only if service is reliable/minimal.

Amateur horologist here, yes you wind the mainspring directly either by manual winding of the crown or by automatic anchor

I was wondering how it would be 2^15 times per second, considering that a second is an arbitrary unit of measurement. So I looked it up. The quartz crystal is just made to have the properties that would vibrate at that many hertz. like made the right size, polished, something about electrodes, etc.

Illogical.

usually automatic wind watches (citizen, seiko, etc) will have a ticking also because of the difference in the mechanism (size restraints require different engineering)
