In this short video, we’re going to talk about the best food to help prevent polyps. A polyp is an abnormal tissue, or pedunculated tissue, in your colon. Certain colon polyps can increase the risk of colon cancer.

The best food to help prevent polyps may be sauerkraut or pickled vegetables. This is because they contain lactobacillus, which is a specific type of lactic acid bacteria.

Lactobacillus:
• Inhibits pathogens
• Is an antioxidant
• Is anti-inflammatory
• Helps to tighten junctions in your colon
• Binds to carcinogens
• Can decrease mutations
• Can decrease pre-cancer growth

With sauerkraut or pickled vegetables, you are not only getting probiotics but also prebiotics. A prebiotic is a fiber that feeds the microbes and makes short-chain fatty acids, one being butyrate. This could help reduce the stimulation of polyps and decrease inflammation.

You don’t need a tremendous amount of sauerkraut or pickled vegetables, but it may be beneficial to include these foods in your diet throughout the week.

I have struggled with polyps for 15 years. I'm 57 and had a family member pass away from colon cancer. I have been learning from Dr. Berg's videos and started Keto/IF. Now I know what to eat to prevent those little buggers from returning. Strange thing, you would think the gastro doctor would inform the patient about ones diet for prevention, oh, I forgot they just want more patients to keep returning so than can fill their pockets.

I’m from Poland and we eat lots of sauerkraut here especially during the winter season. I’m talking good- home made, raw sauerkraut and also pickles. That being said my mother developed colon cancer and my opinion is that number one factor in these type of disease is stress. Not only we stress too much but we don’t know how to actively destress. It’s very important to practice some sort of relaxation be it meditation or yoga or whatever.

My husband went with your suggestion about eating pickled vegetables weekly. He chose to add sweet and spicy and brand is Dave's pickles. He went yesterday to do a colonoscopy, great news he had one tiny polyp. His Doctor told him to keep doing what he is doing because it's working. My husband usually has 4 to 6 polyps when he goes for his colonoscopy. I want to thank you doctor for all your advice you put on here. My husband got colon cancer once before. He started using your advice and we Love the outcome. Thanks again Doctor.

I had a 2.5 cm polyp removed in July, I thought that I was suffering from an old sports injury as it felt like groin strain and I just lived with it. My doctor was responsible for it being diagnosed, he didn’t know about what thought was groin strain my fault! He just wanted to examine my intestines and send me for a scan, I am glad he did. Luckily I love pickles but had not been eating them very regularly, I will now! Thank you Dr Berg for all your work, I am 75 now, I’ve had lymphoma, three blood clots and a five way heart bypass, I wish the kind of information that you give us had of been available when I was much younger but we tend to think we are immortal when we are young.

I recently had a colonoscopy done in the beginning of September 11, 2023 they removed two polyps, benign, and said there were two flat polyps. They wanna go in now, and get because they’re benign! But from what they’re saying, they are very prone to turning cancerous. They are also very eager to get me back in there! I am a retired, RN, hospice nurse. I have seen way too much fear, mongering, cut, burn, and poison! So I’m curious as to what your thoughts are on these flat polyps that are, by the way benign!
I plan on parasite cleanse for now! All is in Gods hands 🙌
Thank you

The thing to realize is that many things that Americans may see as "pickled vegetables" actually do not have those bacteria. You can pickle with time and leaving your veggies submerged in brine and those bacteria will grow when pickling. But things that are just put in vinegar/spices and then heated up to sterilization to can do not. So a jar of pickles on the pickle aisle or a can of sauerkraut will not work. You need to buy the deli style or fresh version or make yourself.

My husband has cowden syndrome, he is prone to tumours throughout his body and has to be screened for polyps every couple years. He’s already had a heaps removed. Now I need to find a way to smuggle, pickled veg into his diet, he’s already complaining about the amount of veg that I make for him to eat, now that he’s eating my ‘ keto meals ‘
Wish me luck 😬

My parents always told me as a kid to eat my sauerkraut, because it “cleaned out your innards”. I guess now, they weren’t far off.

This is a superb short and straight-to-the-point video. A cancerous polyp was found 20 months ago during a colonoscopy. I haven't detected any symptoms of a spread of tumours yet, but I will take Dr Bereg's advice and stick to it. –And to Dr Berg's advice.
