No Taxpayer funds should go towards housing near any shoreline PERIOD!!! If you can't afford to rebuild out of pocket move Inland Period!!! DESANTIS was one of the Republicans who opposed NY Sandy relief Keep that same energy stop building on Coastline,

I guess people have different definitions for "paradise." I lived on Sanibel for a year and left FL completely. I had enough of months of heat and high humidity, tropical storms and threats of hurricanes, flying Palmetto bugs (cockroaches), no-see-ums, huge housekeeper spiders, bumper to bumper traffic in the winter, alligators, and poisonous snakes. And that was a good day!! I'll stick with my four seasons at 6000 feet above sea level.

My family's hearts go out to you and the people of Florida.

My first hurricane and I would move elsewhere. I would never live in Florida or near the ocean.

When you rebuild this time build raised foundation's.drainage system for storm waters.concrete housing for withstand high winds n rain . You have a clean slate to implement all hurricane adjustments to withstand future hurricanes

This whole misfortune is very terrible for so many folks who didn't deserve anything like this. However what really blows me away is the amount of nasty, hateful comments spewing on these comment boards. And to think they will probably breed more of the same.
Stay strong survivors and best wishes.

I like his idea to park the RV on the lot and clean up. Best clip I've seen.

I lived on fort Myers’s beach for close to 15 years. The worst one I saw was charley when it just sat off the coast and pushed water and sand on the beach from big hickory to the bridge. Nothing like this though. This is just devastating even though I live inland now I hate to see the damage especially to time square. Nothing left.

I live in North Fort Myers in a camper trailer and thank God that it didn't get destroyed because me and my petite girlfriend stayed here during the hurricane ian and I am so grateful that me and her and our home are still standing

Screw that sailboat. And another invasive species let loose to destroy the ecosystem is criminal

So ok, sorry bout the boat. But it's a boat. The memory of the owner remains. But how is that boat more important than the people that lost their lives? Or even the animals that were members of a family? God bless all of those that lost loved ones . And those left homeless. And bout that boat lady.

I live near the Edison Ford winter estates and my car is gone and my house is partially destroyed. Being 80 with a 84year old partner we are just about able to cope. That plus the people who are crooks coming in to take advantage of us really dismays me.

I would leave Florida now, and never return again, another hurricane could hit them, hurricane season isn't over yet, Nov 1 is the end of hurricane season, but Florida also gets tornadoes, severe storms alot.

The disheartening thing about this is that it is estimated that 80% of the residents do not have flood insurance.
