THE RESPONSE

For years these supposed contradictions have made their way into websites, blogs, videos and recently social media. Critics copy these allegations and paste them everywhere, without, in most cases, reading each one carefully and considering the answers Adventists have already given.

1. TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR OR FACTUAL MISTAKE. There are three:
the implication that the Tower of Babel was built before the Flood (no. 7)—
corrected in The Spirit of Prophecy, volume 1 (1870); four allies total
rather than four allies in addition to Chedorlaomer (no. 55A)—corrected in
From Eternity Past (1983) and The Beginning of the End (2007); two
different Herods (no. 6A)—corrected in Sketches from the Life of Paul.

2. INSUFFICIENT STUDY OF THE BIBLE OR HISTORY. Four examples are
Moses’ wife’s being called a Cushite (no. 9)—retracted; Israel’s being
destroyed for gluttony (no. 10); Christ’s being tempted for 40 days (no.
21)—retracted; John’s surviving being boiled in oil (no. 5A).

3. OVERLOOKED CONTEXT. Four examples are whether the plan of
redemption existed before the Fall (no. 1), the application of blood in daily
sacrifices (no. 13), and whether sickness is sin (no. 45).

4. SEMANTICAL ARGUMENT. Examples include the use of phrases like
“with her” (no. 2), “like other children” (no. 14), Christ’s being “truly God”
(no. 15), who “chose” Judas (no. 17), the difference between “visited
upon” and “transferred to” (no. 32), and whether Judas had a conviction to
confess his sin (no. 4A).

5. MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPT. Two examples are
humankind’s second probation (or chance for life) through Christ (no. 24)
and that we must be perfect before Christ will accept us (no. 38).

6. DOCTRINAL DIFFERENCE. Examples include differences concerning the
Sabbath as the seal of God (no. 42), the Investigative Judgment (nos. 25,
27), and eschatology (no. 46).

7. NEW DETAILS. Two examples are dogs eating Judas’ remains (no. 18)
and Mary’s being led away from the cross (no. 22).

When these responses were first sent to the creators of these allegations, they quietly removed two of them and replaced them with new ones. Those new ones were then refuted as well. If they truly considered the rest of the responses, they'd remove the rest of them and the document would no longer exist.

Explain ‘mark’ & ‘sign’
See Ezekiel 20:12 . 12Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them

Didn't EGW and/or her secretaries, review these books before or after they were printed and make the corrections at that time?

Did Abraham passed between the parts of the sacrifice (Genesis 15:9-18)?
“By divine direction, Abraham sacrificed a heifer, a she-goat, and a ram, each three years old, dividing the bodies and laying the pieces a little distance apart. To these he added a turtledove and a young pigeon, which, however, were not divided. THIS BEING DONE, HE REVERENTLY PASSED BETWEEN THE PARTS OF THE SACRIFICE, MAKING A SOLEMN VOW TO GOD of perpetual obedience…As a pledge of this covenant of God with men, a smoking furnace and a burning lamp, symbols of THE DIVINE PRESENCE, PASSED BETWEEN THE SEVERED VICTIMS, totally consuming them” (PP, p. 137.1, 2, 1890).

Charles John Ellicott (1819-1905): “For not two symbols, but only one, passed between the divided carcases. Abraham had probably passed between them immediately after arranging them, and now Jehovah does the same” (An Old Testament Commentary For English Readers, vol. 1, Genesis 15:17, p. 68, 1882).

In the Bible Study Guide, 2022, February 20, p. 71, the author says, “Significantly, only God walked between the animals, for the purpose of communicating to Abraham that he would not break his promise.”
She may have seen it her vision! but adapted wrong wording from Ellicott’s Commentary?
