HP Touchpad Review| Booredatwork

Показать описание
The HP TouchPAd, is the latest entry into the Tablet wars we find ourselves in. This is the first webOS tablet, running WebOS 3.0 from HP, its got a 9.7" touchscreen, powered by a dual core 1.2Ghz processor. Also has a 1.3MP front facing camera for video chat (no rear camera). It does come in 16GB & 32GB Wi-Fi options for $499 & $599 respectively.
Hardware
The TouchPad is all black in glossy finish, which makes it a fingerprint nightmare. The devices does have some weight to it, with one physical button on the face of the device. On the right hand side it has a volume rockr and a slot that slides out to reveal you device serial number(Why?). No rear camera and no expandable memory.
The Glossiness of the design does make it hard to grip and you tend to find yourself resting your hold of the TouchPad constantly. Also the design is a little bulky, though the TouchPad looks slim or slender, it feels like it was design for discomfort with no clear holding form built into its design and its overall glossy finish takes away from the the systems feel
WebOS
WebO 3.0 has a very familiar feel as to the other versions of WebOS. The questions here is does it work well for a tablet? Answer is yes and no. That's where are the frustration begins with the Touchpad. There are times when using the Tablet it feels refreshing and there is simple ease of use. Like the accounts feature, once you added all you email accounts in. the corresponding chat features like yahoo chat and Google talk are automatically added to you IM app. (Except for Skype, it just didn't work for me).
Then there are times where the software fights with you, you get freezes, have to tab a button a couple of times before it responds. I have even had it restart on me twice. Now I don't know if the problem is software or hardware related. But WebOS 3.0 clear runs slower on the Touchpad
Conclusions
There are some things to like about the TouchPad. WebOS feels like a full featured operating system. They are enough apps available in the market to get you started. But they are also numerous negative aspect of the device that set it back. The device runs slow, can be irresponsive at times, battery life during my use was 6hrs(without watching a movie on the device). Unit ran very warm during use. HP had a clear shot at tackling Apple's dominance with the TouchPad but it seems the may have missed the mark at launch. Lets hope most the these issues can be remedied with a software upgrade. Till then I would have to set aside the TouchPad for something else.
