The HP TouchPad, the first WebOS tablet from HP is available in stores today. So we went out to stores and got a unit to review. The HP TouchPad has a 9.7 inch screen, 1.2Ghz dual core processor, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera and comes in 16 Gb or 32 GB Wi-Fi options for $499 and $599 respectively.

The TouchPad is all black in glossy finish, which makes it a fingerprint nightmare. The devices does have some weight to it, with one physical button on the face of the device. On the right hand side it has a volume rockr and a slot that slides out to reveal you device serial number(Why?). No rear camera and no expandable memory.

WebOS at first glance sis smooth and robust, I noticed no hiccups and it was intuitive to use coming from a different platform. SO far I like what I see,. Though its interesting HP opted not to install a rear facing camera on this device, (but seriously who uses tablets to take pictures). Hope you enjoyed our first impressions of the TouchPad, We should have a full review of the device in the coming week.

@TheRaceforTech There's much criticism about the weight. But many forget that HP's TouchPad is carrying two large coils on its back for inductive charging. One for landscape charging and the other for portrait. Logic says that it will be heavier than its competitors. One must wager the pros and cons of this feature. If this feature is of no importance then weight will be an issue. But if it is a feature of great importance, one will be more likely to bear and understand the extra weight.
