Century Plant only blooms 1 time at 100 years old then it dies. Common in Texas if you're lucky enough to have one.

The maguey only flowers before dying. It reach the sky and blooms, giving the world a wonderful goodbye.

It's called a century plant. They're very common here in Southern California.

It’s a Century Yucca. It blooms like this every so often, or when it feels like it, but it seems like it’s once every 100 years.

My sister had one for years. In the early 90s Her then, now late, husband had brought back one from Florida to Victoria BC canada. Last year she decided its time to retire and move. Less than a month later the “cactus” starts growing and was taller than her house. She took it as a sign that he was happy for her and her starting a new phase of her life.
Fixed it.

What a wonderful blessing that she got to live long enough to see that beautiful cactus

Blessings to people who plant seeds knowing they’ll never eat the fruit.
The world needs more people like that.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen a century tree, I almost forgot about it. One of the most whimsical plants, I swear Dr. Seuss grew inspiration from it.

In Texas this plant does this before it dies. It blooms with up to 100 new Agave catus sprouts to multiply its species.

"For 36 years, the cactus just sat in Jackie's front yard." Because it's a plant.

It was Dennis's fault why Mr. Wilson missed out on the bloom of his rare plant. 😂

They're quite common throughout CA. Once a clump gets going over the years, the blooms aren't so rare since it keeps making more plants and they start cycling through their blooms. Super easy to dig out the pups and transplant. It's my favorite free plant.

My neighbor has one. It is blooming too!! He didn’t know what it was either but the Mexicans who live a couple of doors down educated him and he educated us about his lovely plant. It’s amazing. You can see it from quite some distance

The local medical Plaza in Santa Ana, California landscaped with dozens of these plants many years back. They are all in the process of blooming right now. My next door neighbor had one bloom around 6 years ago. It was amazing. Dozens, all at the same time is phenomenal!

We lived in our rental for 4years & the landlord said our trees in the backyard weren't fruit trees as he's owned the house for more than 20 years. Yet after the crazy winter storm his Texas the following year our backyard was covered in Mulberries lol
