They canceled the event. Brazil's government pulled funding at that last minute & Red Bull tried to quickly build the platforms, but it started falling apart after practice. They tried to repair it in time, but ultimately decided to cancel the event.

The dives were from practice, then a storm came through and displaced much of the scaffolding. Unable to adequately repair in time it was cancelled at the last moment. The debris shot is from after the storm. Nobody 🚫🚷🙅‍♀️tried to dive when that debris was there.

In my nursing school program - I was assigned a patient who was young and handsome - in his 20’s - paralyzed from the neck down. He could feel when you touched him but he couldn’t move. This was due to him diving into a lake with his friends and there were cars under the water. He survived but my God. He told me he’s sad he never gets to experience certain things like sex. So don’t dive just anywhere! And send a prayer to this guy. He’s in NJ. I forgot his name.

The POINT being...that for THIS dive, and perhaps a few others... that's ridiculous!!! There's ALREADY hundreds of places in which to dive from. I just hope every bit of it was cleaned up afterwards.

I always think of that when I see some of the shoddy scaffolds they use for dives. Makes me wonder if they ever get inspected before they let you on it.
