We rarely get PCs back, so I thought I would share a repair with you. I may do this more often if you find it interesting.

I'm always skeptical when a customer has opened up the computer, moved things around including connections (on their own) and then stuffed packing foam sheets into the actual MOBO components cavity. I'm not doubting the customer's intentions because I realize you were on the phone with them and had them re-seat memory and peripherals. Great that you share this type of service work with us!!

I've been working in IT for over 20 years - and I've only seen one processor go bad. Agree that's super rare.

HELLO MICHAEL! Am an avid Subscriber, you are my first 'Go to' when diagnosing PC issues! I recently built a new Computer in my old Tower with a new Raidmax Vampire 1000W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply, an MSI Z390-A PRO Motherboard with an Intel Pentium Gold Processor G5400 CPU @ 3.7GHz! Next added 64.0 GB DDR4 3200 Ram! Also a ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1 Video Card! Recently upgraded all my HHD's with an Intel 660p Series M.2 1 TB SSD Drive C and two WD I TB internal SSD's! My Computer now boots up completely for a cold start in 30 seconds!!!! (Once in a while when I turn it on, it Boots into the Bios Screen)!!!(But when I wont to boot into Bios, no matter what key combination I press it wont go into Bios on Command)! Windows will not display on my Digital Monitor but I can see the Bios Screen on another HDMI Output to my 32 inch TV! Am running XMP Mode and Gaming Mode on the MSI along with allocating 3/4 of my Ram to Process my Adobe Premiere 2022! My Question is: How do I get the computer to Boot into Windows EVERY TIME? And secondly, How do I get my computer to boot into Bios on command?

I reeely suggest you get proper table work station, cause yikes.

Would really not plug in new gpu first, that would be the last scenario, cause if there is a short it can destroy that too.

Take them all parts out, and test separated, yes it takes more time, but there can also be more than one issue on the computer to be found.

Would test the psu before adding new gpu atleast. Gigbabyte not the top ones...

As professional i think you have several test bench available with varieaty of platforms.
CPU and mobo are tricky to test if you dont have working components for that same socket.

It's all a process of elimination, as you know.

What is a burn in?. You mention it at the very end. I've only built one computer the one i have now. I was lucky. No problems happened, but content like this takes the fear out of building. Thanks.

If a customer knew about PC's, they would not be sending it in for repairs. #fail

Cpu fan is on the wrong side and in pull not push config. People who don't know anything have no business inside a pc moving things around.

Should have removed the cmos battery first and see if it boots then 😁 saves time

Michael notice exactly what you did and what the customer said. After you put the new GPU in you first rest the CMOS without trying to turn it on as is. The customer said he tried without the GPU and it still wouldn't boot UNLESS he reset CMOS. Trying powering up again without reset and see what happens. The GPU maybe a red herring.
If that's the case then I had exactly this issue and not sure what's going on.
PS I also build PCs

lol that cable was not going to get caught in the fan. those fans do not have enough pull for one and for 2 those cables are fairly rigid. at most it would rub the fan.
