I have never seen a more accurate description of my day at work. The insane amount of dust, lunch in the shop, hard drive docks, and even the UPS delivery! Amazing video

I tried applying at a computer repair shop in my hometown a couple years ago and the manager laughed at my resume and said he didn't have time to take me under his wing. I now have all my office supplies shipping to me in a couple days and will be starting my own repair service.

I think the majority of my job consists of backing up or cloning drives or fixing displays, and always the hard the to do MacBooks or new macs that got the adhesive that you gotta use a heat gun to get off, but majority are laptops

As a person who worked in a computer repair shop for a little while, this all feels familiar to me.

Honestly would like to try working at a small shop like this. I've done corporate deskside for a while and looked around for a shop here but sadly most of them are closed down now.

Two kinds of people in the world: those who have backups and those who will have backups

"2 computers to repair", as a Micro Center Service technician I almost shed a tear. I have a queue of 20 computers and half my time is at the counter answering questions. My job is like this job + waterboarding. I constantly feel like I'm drowning and most of the techs want to die.

Edit: for comparison, today I finished a rebuild that wasn't posting, spent 3 hours at the check-in counter, checked in 15 machines and turned away several people, checked out 5, fixed a nun's computer at the counter that wasn't booting, communicated with 6 open tickets, answered phone calls, and barely got to touch my actual work. Also, all our paperwork is handled through archaic systems. Just grabbing a part from the sales floor requires me to create and fulfill purchase requisitions as of I was a parts coordinator and a warehouse worker. It's fucking nuts.

The Nostalgia: Haven't worked for a mom and pop shop in a long time, but remember all of this.

P.S. That dusty computer is nothing compared to what I have seen lol. Try a horse barn computer in an open environment. Cat urine, horse urine, dog urine, dead mouse, throw in a little dust or 3 zillion here and there. Even after we cleaned it it still smelled like urine.

Love this video. I love fixing my own stuff but I'm far from pro. Would love to have this as a hobby, but in my area PC repair is quite a low income job. Fuck it.

People need to stop buying pre-built PC's and start building their own so the don't have so many problems with them.
