I also experienced a blue screen, apparently the processor thermal paste was dry. After I replaced it, the problem was resolved!

I personally just boot into a linux distro, and copy everything I need to a USB

They're so many easier ways than what you did to get the customer is dat you were with a fresh reinstall, you can literally just reinstall from a flash drive over the original windows partition and it keeps the user data

I just use the M.2 -> USB external case, backup all the data then reinstall - no need to make your customer buy another NVMe drive when it is not necessary.
But I usually fix the blue screen using normal methods. It's not that hard to check event viewer files on a different PC or import a registry to modify autorun, or fix windows boot manager etc. Full system reinstall is the last step. Almost all customers appreciate this, because they don't need to reinstall everything just because their PC had a driver gone bad or other minor problem.

alternatively just plug the drive into a new computer, copy important data to temp drive. format windows fresh then copy important data back??

What I would’ve done would be to just put the m.2 into another of then transfer files into another form of storage device then reinstall windows and transfer the data back.

This should be a option, still should be at a cost but should be lower than buying a new ssd.

I just did a clean install over the same drive with the previous windows installation and it worked for me cause I didn’t have any spare drives for my pc.

U could have just put the drive in your system and saved the data on yours. Then install the window on his and move the data back

I would suggest getting a linux mint install usb, copying the files onto another usb, hard drive, or smthn else, and then re-installing windows, or repairing the files on your own/replacing the windows files while leaving the regular files untouched.

We also can use Windows PE to edit partition, and then move data to another parition, then delete the windows partition, reinstall

or you can just put the SSD in to an enclosure, take the files in a working computer or laptop then re-install windows on the SSD then put said files on the fresh install SSD

when a lot of program installs annoyingingly add files and folders to the personal documents folders, some users may save to another directory which might be affected by system restore
