Beyond the Fake Rich: China's Influencers Go to Extremes to Deceive, Like Buddha Beauties

Approximately three years ago, these internet celebrities were exposed online for eagerly participating in group purchases to flaunt wealth, attaching themselves to luxurious elements like Bvlgari hotel luxury suites, Ritz-Carlton hotel afternoon teas, and Ferrari supercars. They took turns visiting these luxurious spots to take beautiful photos for social media, living a fake "socialite" lifestyle. To falsely flaunt their wealth, they even resorted to group purchases of second-hand stockings, breaking beyond the average person's imagination in the "Yuan universe" of China.

I don’t really understand why anyone would believe influencers about anything they say. Do they really think the highly-staged photos are reflective of their real life? Really? Surely only children would honestly think such a thing?

Correction: Prada didn't "open" the wet market on Wulumunqi Road. That wet market has been open for 20+ years. Prada was doing a pop-up event where a banner was planted onto it and they gave "Prada take away" bags to customers. It lasted only about 2 weeks for the 2023 expected tourism boom. Only so-so results and it's all been taken down since then (business resumes as normal). It was pretty funny though.

We have adopted a "no influencer policy" at our restaurants - we're sick of their bullshits.

If that Prada market was in America, the clout chasers would be all over it.😂

Anyone who flaunts their wealth is tasteless. That should be the first give away. 😊

The Prada produce market is an excellent IRL shitpost.

Most people don't use religion to lift themselves up. They bring it down to their level.

Imagine if there were "Haunted House Beauty" posing with branded dress amidst dilapidated house or even "Construction Beauty" doing hard work wearing high heels and tight tank top 😂

All influencers are fake, it's absolutely their plastic nature, "shallow as a soap dish, and less value!" Grandma said!😅😮

And here I am. I've spent 3 days in 5 star Chinese hotel last week and I didn't even take a selfie. Because I don't understand why would I need it. People who can actually afford something in life don't care about social media.
