In this episode I respond to subscriber CareyBolam who asks: I'm torn between a KitchenAid KDFE104HPS and a Bosch SHEM53Z25C. Based on your video I feel like I'd be happy with either one but curious to know your opinion.

We bought a Bosch Ascenta (think that is the correct name) based on Consumer Reports' recommendations and that it was actually made in the USA. Seemed okay but we noticed some stainless steel spoons had the slightest of hazes. There were clean and we got used to the haze. After a couple of years the door latch became loose and it leaked. Of course, it was well beyond warranty. Paid a tech to repair it. He recognized the problem when I described it over the phone. Seemed he had seen a few of the same. After another year or so, we ran into some other problem. Replaced it with a KitchenAid which cost approximately the same price. No more hazy spoons. And no problems with the dishwasher for several years. We sold the house a year ago.

Wow, all I was hoping for was a comment and I got a whole video. Thank you so much. I went with the Kitchenaid and almost chose a slightly higher model just for the 3rd rack but then decided I didn't really need it. Something about that Bosch model bothered me as it didn't seem to be quite the same as the other models in the 300 series. For instance the other 300 series are rated at 44 dba and this one was 46 dba which then made me wonder if they were cheaping out on that model a bit. I should have it Saturday and be able to hear my TV while running the dishwasher.

Thank you for this, and thank you Carey for asking that question! I've been wondering about dishwashers myself, but just starting the research and this was still very helpful to me. We have an old, hook-up-to-a-faucett Frigidaire Ultraquiet (which is anything but ultra quiet, btw!!!) that has lasted a long time, but husband has had to make a few repairs as our hard water (lime) is tough on appliances. We're in the process of remodeling our kitchen so that we can have a built in. I'll have to check out that dishwasher video you mentioned! Thanks again!

I paired down my choice between a Miele & Bosch. They're both best in class so tough choice, and both are running summer sales atm. Miele offering -10% + 5yr warranty. Bosch running a more you buy more you save program (and apparently crappy support & 1yr warranty). Miele, IMO, has better racks with the exception of the 3rd rack. Ultimately decided to go Bosch (was set on their fridge and my first choice for oven was $2k more expensive vs Bosch combo oven) for their CrystraDry feature, which doesnt use energy to dry dishes.

Still shopping for a dishwasher. Want 1 that will dry plastic dishes. And dry all other dishes with out the rinse aid. Rince aid leaves chemicals on your dishes, its like a wax on a car.

It is certainly very good info. I have kitchen aid at home. Worked like charm. It has been 10 years so time to change it. I have well and solar. I want dishwasher with shorter normal wash time. I use this machine 3 - 4 times a day. Yes big and busy family. I am debating between Bosch and Asko. Please suggest.

I really dislike any dishwasher that opens the door and let steam out into the house this is Florida where I live and it's this humidity capital of the world we don't need one more ounce of water in our environment please the other thing I don't care for is delayed service I am not going to just do my dishes while I'm not there I want to be there I want to press the button myself and I don't care about a 24-hour delay those are things I dislike besides Wi-Fi in a dishwasher
