My injectors have failed on my HiAce van and im in the middle of sorting it out. Stumbled upon this video of yours and im taken away with your very frank explanations and down to earth comments about how it actually is and whats involved to get the diesel engines up and running nicely. I love good info and no BS! love it. keep it up and make more content. youre really good :)

Wow....excellent video. Thank you very much for sharing. Came here trying to find a solution to bad diesel knock with a cold startup and under light load om my 2013 Hilux 1KD. 164.000km

I’m getting some really bad rattles on cold startup under light load – from 1400 rpm through to 2000rpm, which then pretty much disappear once the engine warms.

I’ve had a mechanic get the feedback values for the injectors hot and cold.

These are
COLD
0.6, -0.2, -0.2 and -0.2 with an injection volume of 16.63

HOT
0.8, 0, -1.1, -0.2 with an injection volume of 6.52

He said the injector values were well within spec but he could hear what he thought were injector noises. He said would be worth changing the injectors if keeping the vehicle long term.

I couldn’t sell the vehicle with the cold start noises, they are most concerning, and not normal. Have had the truck for a while now and it has never been noisy like this in the distant past.

Vehicle does not blow any smoke on startup or under load, and the fuel economy is same as it’s always been; between 600 - 800 km depending on city or country.

Hard to find someone who knows a lot about these common rail systems so asking for any advice you can offer.

Thanks

Thank you for the informative video. I'm half way through this job on my 1kd hilux. Only the head ports still to do. After I've got it back together I'll read the values of the injectors. It's done 250k and was just as clogged up as this video

I’ve just done my 1KD motor at 150, 000km. The difference being it has had a Provent 200 catch can fitted since new. There was soot around the EGR valve but a lot less than in this video, a lot less in the elbow and entrance to the inlet manifold. Low mileage of course, but the main difference is that the soot is dry and very friable and comes off easily, its not oil & soot mixed. Removing the oil vapour from the crankcase vent with the catch can makes a huge difference to the deposits.

Hi Phil love how you went further in-depth to show how things work and how parts can cause lots of problems later on down the track when left for a extended period of time you really know your stuff. Keep making videos it’s very educational to and fun to watch!!!. Wish our mechanics here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 would use the decarbon system you guys use could save lots of money in the long run etc.

😁🤙

After a proper clean like you've done will a product clean work at frequent intervals say every 40 to 50 kms?
