Littering is littering no matter how you put it. Locks abandoned on public bridges become a burden on the Parks & Rec. Department because they are ultimately responsible for destroying these locks. Abandoned locks on bridges can cause a variety of issues including rust, corrosion, adding unnecessary weight to a bridge (whose engineering blueprint wasn't designed to take on this weight in event of strong winds) and becomes a public eyesore once a bridge is littered. I don't even want to go into how this is a waste of city tax dollars and a waste of Parks & Rec's resources to spend days removing locks on the bridge when they can be using this time and money to plant trees, clean up water, and clear the roads from gravel so that families can enjoy a better environment. The city should consider implementing a No Locks on Bridge violation code.

How do you get permission to remove locks like this on bridges? Or do you need c permission?

I think this absolutely awesome of you to do...well played sir. As for the random couple "temporarily" leaving their bike lock there to come back to it, what about the cable or chain you would need to do so? So they'll ride with a loose cable or chain dangling possibly and hopefully to get caught in their spokes or bike chain? that's almost as dumb as as leaving your bike lock on bridge, to lock it up no where near your class, house, or shop you may want to go in. as for locking them on a bottom rail, weight is still an issue seeing as they are still on the bridge. So I applaud you sir for your effort of removing all these eyesores of failed relationship memories that are blocking the view that was meant to be seen.

I am laughing so hard now and at the end “happy Valentine’s Day” ... hahaha. I would agree with others saying that we don’t pick locks in use or that belong to others but these are abandoned, encourage litter by throwing keys away on public property and they have no intention of removing them. So you keeping doing it man, and next time I am at the overpass near me that has them I might do the same. I’m not good enough to get anything at or past around a master lock 532 since I just started this week, so I’m not asking because I want to take them but out of curiosity do people use more difficult locks on these bridges? Or are they getting mainly standard tumbler/cheap easy open locks for this? I would laugh if some locksport person did this with a sophisticated lock to ensure their lock stayed up.

Thank you for sharing. While I agree with some if your point if view you should be a lobbyist and start with the plastic water bottles that destroys our environment and big money our landfills are full if them

Actually I think that it’s a great idea to have locks on the bridge or wherever it shows how much they love each other and you guys are breaking their hearts which is a really messed up thing to do since they got rid of it in Paris they now have it in San Antonio and they said it’s going to keep going on no matter what I support this
