A BBC investigation has discovered that thousands of German nationals have migrated to Paraguay in the last 12 months to escape Covid restrictions and vaccinations in Europe.

But the pandemic is not the only thing driving this new wave of immigration.

Many of the new arrivals say they have become immigrants in Paraguay because they are uncomfortable with Muslim immigrants at home.

I am Afghan, and I agree that Islamic fundamentalism is the biggest issue in our world.

I watched the spanish version of this documentary and here the german couple is portrayed in another way.
The man said that german and muslim cultures do not mix well, because they have different values. But in Paraguay they see a place where they can connect with the local's values and actually raise their daughter in the way they want to

I'm from Paraguay and they are very welcomed here. They're very hard work people and don't harm anyone. I can't blame them for searching another country where they feel safer. Hopefully more germans and other EU citizens come here.

Paraguay has a lot of German colonies across the country. Germans are hardworking and intelligent people, we Paraguayans can learn a lot of them.

I totally agree. If I go to Germany, I want to see German people listen to the German language and eat German food. If I go to the Middle East, that’s where I expect to see Muslim people

Good. The unrestricted immigration into Europe has destroyed it. I would leave Europe too if I lived there.

as someone who is travelling paraguay, i can say it’s not just germans. there is a wave of europeans fleeing their own countries, due to what they see happening around them. it is nothing to do with race, it’s the values of the religion and the culture that brings into our countries. the uk, where im from, is now a prime example of this.

I know this may shock a lot of fools in this comment section but in Latin America we don't mind European immigrants as the vast majority of people in Latin American have partial European descent and our cultures are mostly based on Western culture

Look at the reporter’s face when Hana talks about the unpleasant facts of violence against German girls by migrants. And then the reporter also asks, “Where are the proofs?” as if she doesn’t believe or doesn’t want to believe that such situations are TRUE. And what does the reporter do in this case? That's right, he calls people fleeing the crisis racists! Oh God, how was it possible to get to this level of journalism and public discussion?

Most countries welcome "rich" immigrants ; restrictions are meant for the poorer.

The German man and the German woman with her back to the camera were just telling the truth.

I am from Syria living in Germany .. What the Gentleman said about the immegrants is to some extend true. A lot of them dont want to learn the german language, integrate into the society and get a job. I have been living in Germany since 2017 and never had any problems with the local people.

Bit ironic …. People who immigrate to a different country, want to live there within a cultural environment that is based on or copies aspects of their home country, continue to speak their native language, practice their native customs, etc… so these Germans live in an isolated sub-cultural bubble rather than integrating into wider (Paraguayan) society. Kind of what they accuse and criticise immigrants to their native country (Germany) for, but if they do literally the same, it is okay, it is somehow different …

Having lived in Germany, I understand where they are coming from. Good choice!

Governments should ask the citizens to vote who to welcome or not to welcome in their country.

I think the most important thing for anyone migrating to another country is that they integrate. Certain countries have their traditions, culture and ways of life and that needs to be respected. Religions should be able to mix perfectly well, as long as there’s respect. Even in this case, the Germans need to integrate into life in Paraguay, not just stay on the periphery and live like it’s Germany. And the same for Muslim migrants, if they’re in a western country for a better life, they need to integrate and respect the country that’s taking them in. Works both ways.

I completely understand their reasons, high tax is also a big deal here in Germany.

The thing is you cannot deny personal first hand experience when dealing with different religions. Acceptance and forced acceptance are two different things.

Along the same lines, in Paraguay and many countries in South and North America there are millions of people of German descent. Now, if Germany really needs workers and people to boost its population, they should encourage and invite these people to Germany instead of accepting so many migrants. By doing this, Germany gets the workers it 'needs' while preserving its culture.
Japan has done this very thing, bringing over tens of thousands of ethnic Japanese from Brazil and Peru to boost its population.

It's sad some people are more concerned with not seeming racist than literal rape
