The easier way to remember names and many other things is to immediately link it to an already strong memory, for example, they say their name is Dan, so you go in your head oh my childhood friend was named Dan, this is Dan. Then when you try to think of their name later you think about what you linked it to and your mind dives into your old friend Dan. It works.
