My husband has had several attacks. Drinking more water regularly was a game changer for him.

I had one attack. After research I determined I was not drinking enough water. Simply by drinking enough water I reduced my uric acid level from 8.1 to 5.8. Have not had an attack in over 12 years. I also take dark cherry extract supplements just as a precaution.

I had gout which was worse on my left foot. I started a very low carb diet 5 years ago and was surprised to experience a remission of the gout and remission of arthritis in my hands. Best wishes 🌸

8 weeks into my carnivore diets had both my feet screaming with gout. I stopped the diet and 10 days later my toes and feet were happy again.

I have had numerous gout attacks over the past 20 or so years. I realized during the last couple that I was likely somewhat dehydrated. I now ensure that I start my day with water and keep hydrated. Have had very minor gout issue since.

Gout is very painful. I have never had gout, but a lot of my patients have. Good video!

I don’t have a high bmi or eat the suspect foods, but suffered multiple attacks over 2-3 year time. Allopurinol prescribed by a rheumatologist did the trick for me and I’ve continually lowered the dosages over the last 5 years.
Get a lot out of your shows Docs. Thanks so much.

I have found that drinking lemonade or lemon water helps to actually prevent the gout flare ups.

Once again, you guys take a sensitive, sometimes embarrassing, and certainly unpleasant topic and not only provide valuable information but do it with humor and compassion. I do not suffer from gout, but I would feel better about my condition after listening to you if I did have it. Thanks.

My husband got an attack from sugar laden foods. We're plant based and don't drink but slowly but surely the sugar treats had increased and bam ... gout. Two attacks so we knew it was the sugar (not) treats because it was Christmas. We haven't made that mistake and we both lost weight this year because from that experience we tightened up diet.

I’m 64 and just had my first gout attack. My whole right foot was affected. My toes were fine. Went to bed everything was fine; woke up in the morning and it felt like my foot was being crushed in an iron maiden. I drove to the emergency room, and hobbled in. They did the blood work and my uric acid levels were at 170. Now, with the meds, it is tolerable. The pain was so intense it leaves you in tears.

I had an attack of gout last year (I was 67). I had been on a diet to lose weight. I was drinking water but maybe not enough. I did lose 40 pounds which was good but when the bloodwork came back my uric acid was 10.0. PCP prescribed allopurinol for one month which took care of it. During my diet I was eating more protein but want overly excessive I thought at less than 100 grams per day - mostly from chicken and salmon. My left big toe and surrounding tissues were really swollen. When I first went to my PCP and suggested that I had gout, he told me that women dont get gout (which I dont believe - I was told that women dont get ovarian cancer at 41 yr but they were wrong about that too - luckily, I found a good gyn MD). I lowered my protein a bit, tried to drink more water and I took the med got better fairly quickly.

I was diagnosed with gout a couple of years ago but I didn’t know I had it because I thought I had severe arthritis. I had it in my shoulder which was excruciating. It felt like glass was stuck in my shoulder. My blood work showed my level was 9.6 which is how I found out I had it. Docs told me I can’t take a water pill cause it can bring on an attack. I was taking it prior to diagnosis but again I didn’t know this was that. I’m on Allopurinol and have been since being diagnosed a couple of years ago. Haven’t had an attack since. 😅

It's been enough years ago that I had my last gout attack that the pain is a really distant memory, but I remember getting some relief by raising my foot as high as I could while I was driving back from a seminar in Arizona. There was no danger of falling asleep at the wheel! I often wondered if there was some correlation between gout and stress, because it always seemed as if my worst gout occurred while I was undergoing significant stress in my life.

I had my first gout attack a few weeks ago. The pain eventually subsided in about 2 weeks. Thank you for this video.

I have bad flare ups of gout quite often, usually in my ankles and wrist. I don't drink alcohol, I eat a low carb diet, not much red meat or shellfish. My last blood test showed the only thing wrong with my blood was a high elevation of Uric Acid. What causes my gout flare up is if I eat certain vegetables. Asparagus, mushrooms, and cauliflower if I have it more than once a week and also if I am dehydrated. I always keep Colchicine and a prescribed Ibuprofen on hand to take when I do have a flare up and it eases the pain almost immediately. The only time I take these meds is for that purpose. My Doctor said most likely it is a genetic thing with me as other family members also have very high levels of Uric Acid in their blood. Having a gout flare up can be the most excruciating pain you may ever experience. Happy New Year!

Excellent video Drs. I would like to add to your plan of care the importance of increasing water intake to help the kidneys to eliminate uric acid and prevent kidney stones formation.

My doctor prescribed Uloric to treat my gout, and it works very well.

I learned about gout after my husband was prescribed colchicine for pericarditis. Everyone kept talking about it as "the gout medicine." I see now that it reduces inflammation for both conditions. Glad he didn't have any trouble finding it in the pharmacy at that time!
