US Navy ships use epoxy paint. This type of paint isn’t really too resistant against salt water.

Main reason why Chinese and Russian ships look good is because they use lead paint which is extremely resistant to salt water…

And if you’re asking why us Americans don’t use it is because it’s extremely hazardous to paint with.. even with proper PPE, it can cause some serious lung problems.

In the USN for 6 years. We were constantly at sea. 6 month deployments were the norm. Even after returning home we were back at sea every few weeks for training, drills….
