Old School Yellow Squash & Onions | Soul Food Side Dish

3 yellow squash
1 large onion
Cajun Seasoning
Black Pepper
Paprika
Garlic Powder
Parsley Flakes
Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon
3 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
1/2 tablespoon sugar (optional)

1. Wash and clean your squash and cut them into medallions shapes, And cut your onion in slices.
2. Place a iron skillet on the stove and set the temperature at medium to high heat. Use 4 tbsp of your favorite seasoned grease...I used chicken grease for this recipe.
3. Add your yellow squash and I onions to the hot skillet.
4. Now add all of your seasoning ingredients to the squash and onions. Mix everything together.
5. Now add your 3 tablespoons of butter, Cook your squash and onion's until they are tender...Also allow your liquid to reduce down before serving.
6. Add a 1/2 of tablespoon of sugar to add more flavor this is totally optional.

Hands down this is the best squash recipe 💯💯💯. Please don't hesitate to try it. I have had some squash growing up my great grandma use to cook it all the time but this is definitely my go to recipe. Thank you Ray Mack. Keep the videos coming. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾.

I make this all the time. Best squash recipe I’ve ever found. My dad even likes it, and he doesn’t normally like squash. It’s soooo good!

My go to recipe. I cooked this about 5 times already. I ran out of grease and substituted with Olive oil and it still tasted great! The sugar is optional, but it does give it an even better unique taste. 10/10

I never ever cooked squash but after watching him today and doing it the way he did …wow it came out excellent I also add zucchini .

Mainstay of any southern kitchen! I love this dish so much I watch others cook it. A dash of nutmeg was the addition my generation added. And we were more likely to stir in some cornbread crumbs, (pepperidge farm's fine) an egg, cream, stir, into casserole and top with more crumbs before baking till lightly brown. Previous generations canned it, making it available to eat at dinners year round. Thanks so much for making this. I sure will be eating a bunch soon as the garden starts putting out the squash. We ate it all summer fresh with other garden crops, corn on cob, cukes with onions and tomatoes (like your recipe), okra, purple hull peas, green beans, and watermelon. It didn't matter if we had fried chicken, gumbo, etc. We always had a rotation of those veggies in summer. Our eggplant went into the casserole with shrimp and cheddar. Cantaloupe were for breakfast. That used up our whole garden! I have seen you cook so many of the same things we do, I think we are cousins! LOL Love to your family! Stay safe everyone!...and keep praying up! 🙏🏻
