My main issue is it nagging as soon as I turned it on because I looked at the screen to see my cruise control speed

Meanwhile, the Comma aftermarket system doesn't make you touch the wheel at all, yet the NHTSA hasn't bothered them over it.

When the recall first came out, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal but overtime I have found myself using self driving less often.

I’m sure there’s some variability between how the system responds to drivers of different shapes and sizes. I can tell you that yesterday I had 2 nags for me to watch the road and both times I was staring at the car in front of me when it beeped. I often get the nag to put my hand on the wheel. When my hand is already on the wheel.

The system definitely needs to be improved.

I’m driving EAP in a ‘22 MYLR. My technique has been left hand palm down on the bottom of the wheel with index finger up against vertical spoke. I went a year and a half without a nag. I made a 100 mile trip since the update and using that technique I found that I had to grip the wheel harder thus more tiring and I disengaged twice during the trip while trying to please the nag. Over all I spent more time distracted reading the warning on the screen and fighting the wheel while watching for the warning to go away (or disengage). Great job NHTSA!

Fully agree this is my experience too and I also only get dinged when looking at the screen to long mainly trying to change navigation.

I really don't get any more nags with FSD now after the "recall" than i did before. I just keep 1 hand lightly on the wheel. If appropriate I'll wear sunglasses which absolutely works to reduce nags. My beef is that other cars with lane centering and traffic aware cruise control have no nag system at all (ie my daughter's Toyota)

I've noticed that it isn't necessarily tracking the way you are looking, it tracks your eyelids.

When you check your speed on the screen normally your eyelids go down and thats what the interior camera detects.

I've found that if you widen your eyes while checking your screen you dont get the nag at all

FSD is being turned down by a large portion of current sales, most claiming it just isnt worth the ridiculous price they want for it.

This is MUST-SEE for new FSD & Autopilot users. Best video summary of The Nag Rules. Thanks!

Hey Chris. I got fsd 12 yesterday. I think you're gonna love it. The hype is real for once.

A week new to tesla and FSD. As a retired engineer, I am frustated with the idiotic way tesla requires you to turn off nag, “slight turning pressure” when just slightly turning the wheel with the exact same motion with a little more pressure cancels FSD. I just took an interstate drive of 300 miles roundtrip, and about and half the time it took 2 or 3 “slight turning pressure” attempts to acknowledge the nag, but about 10% of the time, as i increased force on the second or third try, I turned off fsd 11.4 accidentally and got a demerit on our tesla insurance. It went from 97% to 88% on our saftey score! Your video was helpful, shows different ways you can acknowledge nag.

I have a 2019 MSP without interior camera. I've stopped using "Autopilot" entirely. The lane keeping (that's all it is) isn't worth the hassle. Keeping a heavy hand on the wheel is more uncomfortable than just steering with adaptive cruise control. With Autopilot I have to supervise the car and be ready to take over, which is more stressful than just being in control.

Also because I'm paying attention to the road, I miss the visual prompts, so I often get an audible nag. That's right, I get punished for doing the right thing.

The whole idea of giving ghost inputs in order to satisfy some overly lawyered system makes the driving experience suck. It's an inversion of how things should work -- computer subordinate to human. I don't need to be babysat by something with zero capacity for context.

As a driver who rests my hands on my knee to grasp the steering wheel I hat the nag. I cant tell you how many times i have to take my eyes off the road to search the screens for whatever warning has interrupted my concentration.

I'm on a road trip right now. Watching your video while charging up at a Meijer in fort Wayne. On the way south from my home, I was nagged to death. Not so bad on the way home. I didn't forget my lessons 😜

wish there was capacitive touch sensors in the wheel, I almost never get the watching nag (unless I'm changing designation) but I often get the hand nag either as I have 2 hands on the wheel and no torque or just being too gentle with the one hand.

With the 2024.2 updates, they fixed that immediate nag after engaging autopilot and looking at the screen. Seems to me like that was a bug, or it was just too sensitive. Now its basically the same as it was pre recall, with the exception of extended time looking away from the road it will warn you to look at the road as expected.

I drive with head turned slightly left, yuck, because I get dinged if for example going around a right bend and head turned right, FSD thinks I'm looking at center console.

I always wear sunglasses if it is not dark. FSD nag for torque on the wheel is much more frequent than pre update. While sitting and driving with normal / light hand load it may go 180 seconds between nags, but 90 is more typical. If I am eating… every 20 seconds. So it seems to watch your hands.
Just rented a M3 with autopilot and the nag was less frequent with the same kind of hand load on the wheel. I didn’t eat much on that trip to test, but autopilot seem more tolerant the FSD.
BTW… one of the rental M3 had the 12battery voltage too low and the car gave me about 8 seconds between first warning take control (autopilot giving up) and the car shutdown. I was not able to pull over in that time and was stopped in the center of 3 lanes on the interstate! Fortunately there was a lot of traffic so was doing about 30mph when this happened. About 2 minutes later I got it to restart by “exiting the vehicle”: remove seat belt, open door AND lift but off seat. Scary 2 minutes! Rebooting the screen did nothing.

I still have absolutely no idea how Ford and GM have hands free driving and Tesla doesn’t

Since I have a yoke, I have been doing exactly what you were doing for my model S. Just resting my hand on the bottom of the yoke 1:53 and only letting go when it’s turning and spinning. So I never get a nag. I’ve made this suggestion on multiple comment areas on multiple YouTube videos I keep trying to get Whole Mars to do it with his yoke. It is so aggravating to watch him and others just react to the prompt and grab the wheel many many times during the drive. You certainly have the best method.
