DATA:

In this video, we’re going to talk about FODMAPs in relationship to IBS and IBD.

FODMAP is an acronym for:
• Fermentable - carbs that are digested by gut bacteria
• Oligosaccharides - grains, garlic, onions, and legumes
• Disaccharides - dairy products
• Monosaccharides - fructose
• Polyols - sorbitol and mannitol

IBS stands for irritable bowel syndrome, and IBD stands for inflammatory bowel disease.

The differences between IBS and IBD are:
- With IBS, there are no ulcers or lesions. It also only occurs in the colon. Essentially, it is inflammation in the large intestine.
- With IBD, there are a group of bowel issues that causes inflammation in different parts of the gastrointestinal (GI) system.

The same things trigger both IBS and IBD:
• Gluten
• Sugar
• Grains
• Lactose
• Siber
• Omega-6 fatty acids

Symptoms of IBS and IBD include:
• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhea
• Bloating
• Gas

FODMAPs increase gas in the GI tract, which can stretch and expand the colon. Those with IBS and IBD are very sensitive to this stretching because of inflammation.

On a low-FODMAP diet, you want to consume plenty of low-FODMAP foods and avoid all high-FODMAP foods.

High-FODMAP foods to avoid on a Healthy Keto diet:
• Broccoli
• Cauliflower
• Asparagus
• Brussels sprouts
• Cabbage
• Peas
• Mushrooms
• Onions
• Shallots
• Garlic
• Artichokes
• Okra
• Beetroot
• Fennel
• Leeks
• Fruits
• Dairy products
• Legumes
• Grains
• Starches
• Sugar
• Cashews
• Pistachios

Low-FODMAP foods to have on a Healthy Keto diet:
• Bean sprouts
• Green beans
• Bok choy
• Bell pepper
• Carrot
• Herbs
• Cucumber
• Lettuce
• Tomato
• Zucchini
• Eggplant
• Radish
• Squash
• Meats
• Seafood
• Feta cheese
• Hard cheeses
• Lactose-free diary
• Almond milk
• Eggs
• Dark chocolate
• Macadamia nuts
• Pumpkin seeds
• Walnuts

If you do the low-FODMAPs diet and still experience gut issues, it may help to cut out all vegetables and do a carnivore diet until your gut heals.

The worst thing for an IBS or an IBD sufferer is to consume more sugars, as they make the symptoms worse, the best thing is avoid over eating, stress and late meals, meanwhile stick to keto and intermittent fasting.

A great success story for me happened about a year ago when I was experiencing constant heartburn with abdominal and mid-back pain. I watched one of your videos mentioning ox bile salts so I gave it a try. I did not expect that within a week, no more heartburn but much to my pleasant surprise, I was cured. After years of dealing with repeated heartburn, I have not had a single episode since adding bile salts to my diet. And, I almost took the advice of my GI doc and a general surgeon to remove my gall bladder. Thankfully, your video enlightened me to avoid this extremely invasive and unnecessary procedure. Many thanks Dr. Berg, your unselfish commitment to helping people live healthier and happier lives is phenomenal and I am so grateful:)

STRESS...is a trigger. Not always avoidable and eats you from the inside out. Removing dairy from my diet greatly helped. I can have a little but must be cautious. PS I FORGOT... eat dinner early that helps with digestion immeasurably.

I started doing the low FODMAP a couple months ago. I use FODMAP apps when I go shopping to make sure I buy low FODMAP foods. However, sauerkraut, which you recommended is considered high FODMAP but sauerkraut helps with the diarrhea which is my worst and most embarrassing symptom. I do not get much bloating but that could be because I do not overeat and I'm not overweight. Low FODMAP is definitely more helpful than the classical recommendation of BRAT. I'm definitely eating more meat in my diet and sadly, less fruit. I love grapes but they do not love me. Interestingly, low FODMAP lists grapes as low. People who go on FODMAP should definitely keep a daily food diary so they can figure out what works, and what doesn't. My IBS bouts are definitely linked to stress and emotional distress as well as microbiome being out of whack.

Watching your videos gives me hope Doctor. Thankyou very much I love the work you do. Thankyou really isn't enough to express my gratitude. Most doctors keep patients in the dark but not you! You bring it all to the light and I am learning more and more!

I was given information on FODMAPS after I had a discussion with my doctor about keto improving my undiagnosed IBS. When I did the FODMAP elimination diet I found out which foods I'm sensitive to. I have problems with many fruits and vegetables. Most of them are eliminated by following a keto diet except I have issues with avocado, broccoli, cauliflower and some lettuce as well.

I just want to let you know - in 2017 or so I got hooked on your channel and watched so much. This was at the same time I fell into an eating disorder- I was 22. I would recommend that when you recommend dietary changes for people you do so gently and with moderation. I was 155 pounds and I lost 20 that I really didn’t need to lose after watching your videos. This might be helpful for people who need to lose weight but I really did not need to. I just urge you to please use more care in how you tell people to go about restricting foods and be sensitive to folks who might take your advice too far. Thank you and I hope you have a good day

At 29 years old I was forced out of work due to chronic puking (everyday) as a mechanic in 2019 due to sudden flair of ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia and IBD. Dr berg thank you, you have saved my life. I have been back to work and doing the things I love again for the past three years. Found out my vitamin D was at 18. I refused all medication from doctors and found and followed Dr. Berg, so glad I didn’t take the Humira they wanted me on. Nothing makes me feel better than carnivore diet, high levels of vitamin D, turmeric, ginger, and fasting. Thank you so much for what you’ve done for me and my family Dr Berg! I’m not perfect and fight a food addiction but when I stick to it I don’t hardly have symptoms, when I cheat and eat garbage I’m right back to hurting. If you ever want an assistant of some sort or are looking for an employee let me know! I’ve learned a lot about true health from you and know that you are spot on correct. I appreciate what you do for us and would love to be a part in it if at all possible!

As well as certain whey protein products as I noticed. I suffered from IBS in the past and one of the best remedies to ease the symptoms: is cinnamon tea; before I sleep, as long as any sufferer avoid late dinners, especially with the kind of foods Dr Berg mentioned, Thanks again Dr Berg 🙏

This is the best advice so far on IBS relief. Mine is triggered whenever I consume greasy or fatty foods, dairy, legumes and grains. I steam or boil all cruciferous veggies, drink black or herbal teas, eat prebiotic bread and limit junk food containing fructose or refined sugars.

I was just given IBS meds for the first time from my doc. So glad you put out this video the very same week! My mother lives with me and is diabetic. I still eat some carbs and sugar, though much less so since she’s the cook. Ugh, looks like I’m doing her diet now. Bummer! I bet it will save me from any potential diabetes diagnosis in the future!

I have been doing keto for four years this month and since starting it my IBS has stopped, I just don’t get it anymore, genuinely. I don’t know why because I still eat IBS trigger foods like broccoli, asparagus and coffee . I don’t need to take my lanzoprozole tablet for acid anymore either haven’t for years. Keto is weird.
