I’m ashamed of myself. I sat and watched some big nose lady try to guilt me into tipping more.

@3:18 "Tip on service not product"
Therefore a flat rate $10 or $20 tip, regardless on how expensive my meal was, should definitely suffice. The service remains the same regardless of the cost of the meal.

I never tip before service, it defeats the purpose of tip

I don't tip anyone but waitstaff. If you're already getting paid a regular wage and all you're doing is YOUR JOB, you don't get tipped unless you did something extraordinary. And if a company makes it too hard to opt out of tipping, I never go back. It's a great exercise in ignoring social pressure. If a person isn't paying your bills and wouldn't visit you in the hospital, their opinion means nothing. Be strong!

The problem now and days is that tipping is in the bill....20% service charge. Then they also expect you to tip the then tipping $10 now and days is like a slap in the face for most servers. Adding 20+ dollars to a tip is just too much with battling inflation. So eventually you get ppl who dont tip or if they do tip...its not enough, which will sometimes make ppl not even want to go out anymore just because the tip is just as much as the bill now!

I don't like it when everytime I go to a retail store and pay for what I bought, they ask me " Would you like to donate to this charity "

At this point folks should be happy people are going out, yes sit down restaurants and deliver should have tips (the normal tipping situation 5 years ago before ipadtipping).
This ipad getting forced in your face is starting to drive people to businesses that don't ask for it altogether.
It snowballs, I can't really afford to keep going out and tipping for folks just existing at the register to hand me something, they stop going to your business, it slows down, it lasts for weeks, it last for months, and bam welcome to back to unemployment.
Shit dominos has been pushing that "we'll tip you to come pick up your own pizza" and still asks us to tip...
IF the business is so fragile it can't afford pay employees without tips then as capitalism dictates it should fail.

Tipping is GREAT. it's not about the consumer's responsibility to provide a wage, it's the customer's CHOICE to reward great service in a service driven job... I'm a server, I make 2.83 an hour, I make about 30 an hour and I DON"T CARE when people tip 5 or 10 percent, it's fine because others CHOOSE to tip like 30-50% sometimes, it averages out, I NEVER complain about bad tips... Even a 5% tip is money in my pocket. Restaurants by law HAVE to pay servers minimum wage IF they're tips don't average to be at least minimum wage... so, MOST servers make way more than that and their wage remains 2.83 - it's FINE

I refuse to tip in North America for many reasons...
a) First, by tipping, restaurant owners can legally pay you pennies and get away with it, which means the entire system is corrupt.
b) Second, It makes no sense to put pressure on customers instead of fighting for a decent wage.
c) And third, tipping is a racist foundation of the american working class economy.
