In a completely non canon comic, two stormtroopers were tasked with cleaning out the dark lords living quarters. To their surprise, they found that Vader actually had a diary. Vader's first entry recorded the time he received a new helmet which he thought looked much more menacing. Vader also wrote about his worries in telling his son he was his father, fearing that he may reject him. The dark lord also reflected on his pessimistic outlook, encouraging himself to be more confident. The sith also noted his dislike of meetings, saying he much prefers doing evil, illustrating this with a series of pictures. The diary also went into detail about an incurable rash that had been annoying him for ages. Most sad of all was an entry about when he believed his stormtroopers may be throwing a birthday party for him. When he found out that it was actually a party for another stormtrooper he became mentally unstable and tried to call his long dead mother. Moved by what they read, the stormtroopers quietly wished the dark lord happy birthday when they next saw him.

Makes me kind of wish there was a canon story similar where someone shows sympathy/compassion to Vader and Vader reciprocating by not killing them.

I bet 50% of the book consists in Vader stating how much he hates sand and the other 50% is about figuring a way to beat Obi-Wan's high ground

This proves that Vader is just really sad and angry and he might not be a full-on sith like Palpatine, he really needs an actual friend like Rex used to be

Journal entries I'd imagine he'd have:

-stuff about the state of the empire and how much he hates imperials

-his distain for his master for having tricked him into becoming his mechanical slave

-regrets for what he has become

-hatred for meetings as he'd rather just get shit done than sit around talking about it

-thoughts about Padme and his numerous plans on trying to bring her back or even just see her again

-notes on darkside and sith artifacts and lightsabers

-at least a few very crude/offensive drawings of people he's forced to interact with

-at least a few pages on Luke Skywalker

-thoughts on the rebels

-a list of Jedi he knows are still out there, somewhere

-finally, a number of plans for killing his master

That's actually really touching. It brings out his humanity for someone who is mostly machine from what we see
