DOs & DON’Ts: Gem/Crystal Nails (No Gel)

Today I have the DO’s and DON’Ts of using gems on your nails! As always I will only be using normal nail polish! I hope these nail tips help♡

If you really want your crystals to last for a month, use thick gel and fill in gaps with a tiny brush and gel topcoat. If you follow this video, your crystals won't last long at all & they'll catch on your hair and other stuff since crystals are flat and the nail surface is curved. That's why nail techs go in with a small brush and gel to fill in those gaps.

I worked at a bead shop in high school and we had a sign over the Swarovskis that said “SWORE-OFF-SKI” and it was so helpful to everyone we got comments all the time lol.

I only use gel and gem gel, so I just put down my gem gel(don't cure), then put down a top coat on it, without curing it, then put down my gems on top of the wet gel and wet topcoat, then cure and it like shrink-wraps the gems down and works really well!

So refreshing to see this can be done with regular polish vs gels....(I’m allergic to I do love the gel look, and at times get frustrated when things can’t be done with regular polish as can be done with gels.... so thank you for giving my faith back ! I always adhere my gems in a layer of topcoat, works like a dream 😍

i do put a thin layer of clear coat on but not right over top of the gem, its just on the side of it so that i know that my thin hair wont tangle in it to make the gems fall off... so if anyone does this.. just a thing layer around the side or underneath part does help and if the gem is big then it wont make it cloudy but yes this was helpful ty :)

god....THANK YOU for this video! I am just starting to do my own nails and i couldnt figure out how to apply gems without it looking messy. My biggest problem was how to apply a tiny amount of glue when the tip on the Kiss nail glue bottle opening is HUGE. I couldnt, for the life of me, apply just one tiny dot. Toothpick. done. Your a lifesaver for those of us (me) who need common sense sometimes lol

Femi uses a layer of top coat (gel tho) over bling to really secure them and I've been following her advice to a T. My first polygel set is almost 3 weeks in and the top coat came off the gems after half a day. Haven't lost a single gem or piece of bling

How long are they actually expected to last?

Don't they get tangled in your hair and pop off very easily with such a little amount of top coat?
