We're adopting two children, a brother and sister. Brother was with their biological parents long enough that he is constantly afraid that he won't have enough food. We went to get him shoes, and he DEMANDED that we stop by the deli, we didn't. Everything that he wanted at the deli, we already had at home, and simply repeated that fact. His sister was young enough when they entered the system that she doesn't have any weird things about food, she asks for snacks when she's hungry, she tells us if she likes a food or not. For my own household, these food and supply chain issues could not come at a worse time. To keep our son's anxiety low, we're teaching him to garden, and letting him pick some of the plants we grow. We're teaching him to can, cook, and dry the things we make. If he can SEE the food is in our house, at least he knows he won't starve.

My Mother had a garden when I was growing up. she planted grew and canned anything and everything lol and my Father was a big bird/deer hunter and fisherman and we eat good all winter and summer!!

Make a list of everything you need/use on a daily, weekly, monthly and buy extra. Toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, special skin care products, soap, chapstick, razors, oil and filters for your vehicle, bike tires, sewing supplies, etc. Whatever is important to you.

I have been telling people for YEARS they need to learn/know how to grow their own food. I was called crazy on multiple occasions. Who is crazy now? One person said they were going to move next to me so I could grow their food for them, not going to happen. I told that person I would show them how but I'm not doing it for them. The nerve of some people!!

I have had a spring, summer and fall garden every year for most of my life. I have been canning or helping can from that garden since I was able to walk and hold a knife without killing myself. I have been stocking up on flour, sugar, seeds, etc.. for the last decade or so. But even more so since 2019... I saw this whole thing coming years ago, and everyone said I was crazy, well not my grandma who lived through the Depression, she said I was smarter than the who rest of the family. I just got done canning most of the bulk meat from my freezer, since power will become dicey soon.

We are starting bartering groups here in Ontario Canada. When you register you state what you can offer. Examples painting, car mechanic, landscaping, Plummer, hair stylist, babysitting, house keeping, electrician etc you can also register what your needs are. It’s a great plan, we all need to pull together and help each other.

Don't just look for a farmers market... ask them if they grow and or source their produce locally. Currently, a lot of farmers will buy bulk produce and just resell it. When food isn't getting imported so easily, you're not going to get much produce from them.
