I've been painting for years, and I really thought I already had a pretty good handle on color harmony, but I got so much out of this video! You are really good at explaining concepts that can be very difficult to grasp. Seriously, this video is golden! Thanks!

I just got done watching this video for the second time, while filling my palette with 2 new colors. It's funny, because I was thinking about the fact that this whole idea of color harmony goes against what so many others suggest. Whenever I see other You Tubers reviewing water colors, they always stress the preference of purchasing single pigment paints and how much better it is try to use single pigment water colors. They always stress the horror of creating 'mud' with more than a couple pigments. I guess I understand what they mean, but since I've started using my own 'mother color' created with the 7 colors in my palette, my paintings feel more pleasing and cohesive. I've been trying to learn color theory for the past two years and I feel like I'm just beginning to make progress and learning to see the slight nuances of color harmony. Thanks so much, Wendy!

I would buy a print of every single page of your journal. Masterful!

Best most interesting, informative art video I have seen. Many people who watercolour are right-brained and intuitive, and the technical theoretical classes do not appeal. This class really hits the spot!

Love you, Wendy! Your new YouTube videos are so much fun. You are just killing it right now, my friend♥️ If anyone is thinking of joining Wendy’s Watercolor for Relaxation course or her Willa Journals course or Fodder School or any of the Willa Workshops courses, I can 100 percent recommend them as the BEST online classes out there… and I have every single one of them♥️

Your journals represent so much dedication and talent. It must be encouraging to look through them and be reminded how far you’ve come. 😊

I’m so thrilled with this video. I love art and, from a child, I wished I could draw like some of the other kids. I draw stick people (probably need a therapist to explain that). I love shapes because they don’t have to look like something specific. From YouTube, I’ve learned that shapes don’t have to be perfect.

Watching you explain color harmony made so much sense to me. Then watching you show me how to mix the paint and to work around the page got me so excited. I can hardly wait to get started trying to use my paints. I’m always reluctant to try because I don’t want to fail and be disappointed. You can’t know how meaningful this video has been for me. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and experience. I really feel I can relax and do this, even if it’s not perfect. 👏🏽💜

Excellent video Wendy! I never knew what a 'mother' meant in painting (I have come across the word in baking over the years). You explained it very well! Your palette is deliciously warm, (even with the blues). I do have a watercolour paint pan set with a ton of colours and shades however I found myself using the same colours over and over again. So much fun and very relaxing. I am 62 and still learning, still WANTING to learn about painting and creating. So thank you 😊 valuable tips here ❤

Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I found you first on videos about fodder school, and loved your use of colors. Color mixing has not been my strong suit OR my long suit, so I was at a loss about how to get a similar effect. The mother color concept is a revelation to me. It makes perfect sense that the colors all harmonize because there are traces of them all contained in the murky depths of the mother, and my brain registers that and finds it pleasing even though it's hard to find the original color in the mud. The effect of using so much of the neutral colors, then popping with the brighter ones is simultaneously soothing and exciting. Since I use watercor painting as part of my healing path to unwind the effects of trauma, this combination is especially pleasing and therapeutic.

I definitely look forward to a deeper dive into what you have to teach about watercolors, as well as the fodder and junk journal offerings. You're my favorite Christmas gift from the universe this year!

This is the first video of yours I have seen. I laughed out loud at the paints in the tube being sent from the universe. 😂 These all good tips for beginners as well as reminders for those of us who have been painting for a few years. Thanks!
