My 81 year old Mom is now on Linux Mint .... She got a brand new laptop and didn't want the newest Microsoft forced version. She is doing fine and loving it!

No thank you Fedora. I DO NOT want AI to be invasively integrated into my operating system. Windows and Mac are already both heading in that direction. OS integration of AI is definitely a privacy and surveillance nightmare I would like to avoid at all costs.

OpenMandriva should've made this list. It's become more popular lately. It's really the only distro I'm excited about.

I guess you can install these 5 distros as standalone vm in Qubes OS to work with all of them at the same time!

The horse I'm betting on is Linux Mint. Everything I develop is tested on Mint and its my daily driver!

Besides Chromebooks, I've defaulted to Linux Mint for reliability but forget Wayland. Still waiting for Ubuntu Immutable since Chromebooks run flawlessly. Happy New Year.

CachyOS is surely one you will want to watch. It is based Arch and optimized a lot (many other distros use their compiled kernels). I'm running an Hyprland personalized desktop and out of the box their hyprland is quite usable and nice. But I know that KDE Plasma is their most popular desktop. You should throw an eye on it ! Thanks for you nice review of top 5 distros.

ive been a mint enjoyer for a couple years, more recently as my main OS. This new update is excellent. So glad theres a nightlight built into settings now!!!

Linux Mint is a great community driven distro. Logical presets. Mint "just works." I have used LMDE as well. Mint and LMDE are highly recommended.

Long time subscriber who loves your content. Have used/tried all these distros.Not interested in changing from Mint 21.3 just to have bleeding edge updates, AI integration, data collection, or Wayland. I tend not to 'fix' things if they ain't broke.

I'm glad I chose Endeavor over Manjaro! No need for tracking. I just switched to Cinnamon on Endeavor and it's a HUGE So nice! I hope LMDE gets an update too. I still have it on another machine.

Happy new year🥳 My eye is on MX Linux Xfce because that's my daily driver. It's quick, easy to install, very stable and easy to use.

This manjaro thing is insane. It's literally the reason we're trying to get away from windows.

"Very few of us use the same distro on different Maybe at a more advanced/elite level. But there are TONS of us "ordinary" (less advanced) users who use the same favorite distro in many different systems.

In particular, in the "Windows escape" arena, using the same distro on multiple systems is possibly the default.

I think the difference is when someone just wants to be done with Windows, they fit into 1 simple distro choice. But when someone is doing servers, she admin, high end applications or any more advanced options, then it makes sense to pick a different distro for each individual purpose.

Manjaro would only get usage reports up until the first time you update the system. Then it crash's, you reboot and you never get back into it 😂🤣
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what's happening with the Cosmic Desktop when it's a bit more stable.

AI chatbot for quick solutions isn't such a bad idea, especially for new users who aren't used to Linux at all.
Wish we got more of that. Kinda tired of answering basic queries for my friends and family.
