Gav shows you how insanely quick the inside of a DSLR camera moves when it takes a picture, by filming it at 10,000 fps.

Camera filmed is a Canon 7D.
This video is a good demonstration of how a rolling shutter works.
Shot with a Phantom Flex at 10,000fps

"I refuse to replace it, because it still works"

That's basically my life right there.

1:11 For those who didn't notice, there is a second mirror behind the first one. The first one is semi-transparent and directs light up towards the viewfinder while the one behind it directs light down into a suite of sensors which detect focus and light intensity at various parts of the frame.

I hear you.
I still have a Canon 20D which I bought in 2004 and still use because it just... works.

Gavin is an extremely intelligent guy. He just happens to be the butt of all the jokes at work and tends to form sentences in a funny way so nobody takes his intelligence seriously.

Many people call Gavin an idiot, but I personally think he plays it up a bit in RT/AH stuff, just for comedic value. Not saying that some of his questions aren't really weird and dumb and oddly worded, but I think he's way more intelligent than people give him credit for. The dude could easily teach a Bill Nye esque motion photography class.

Watched it years ago and did not completely understand it. Now, as a grown photographer, i fully understand it and probably show it to other People, if they want to understand a mechanical shutter! Thanks Gav!

Gavin from Slow Mo Guys is like a completely different Gavin from Roosterteeth.

Remember people; This is the same guy that wonders if legs know if they're legs, and wonders "does rocks float on lava".

That actual footage of the different gap between the various shutter speeds was amazing to witness. I didn’t know they worked that way. So, cheers for this education.

I respect the choice to keep the camera that has been through a slow hell and back. and when it does die, it should be put on display

Gavin is possibly one of the most humble guys you will ever meet. I think he puts on an act a lot of the time and purposefully takes the censor off all those silly little moments you get in your brain and lets them loose when with Rooster Teeth but he is actually a genuinely super smart guy. this stuff is so fascinating, and if you ever said to him "Gavin, you're actually really smart" I think he'd deny it until he was blue in the face. It's one of the main reasons why he's one of my favourite guys, he's just genuine and awesome and adorable. Thanks for showing this, I hope it didn't ruin your camera too much taking pictures without the lens on dude!

I've been using SLR's and DSLR's for many years and never realized that the shutter moves as the same speed for those high speed shots, but the spacing between the shutters changes. I learned something new today.
