“Not a single person that belongs to the Baloch community is safe.”

Pakistani human rights activist Mahrang Baloch joined a segment of Mehdi Unfiltered to talk about why she was detained at the airport and denied travel to the U.S. to attend an event honoring her as one of Time Magazine’s 100 emerging influential leaders of the year.

Baloch was being recognized for her advocacy for the Baloch minority in Pakistan, a community she herself belongs to.

She is the voice of not only Balochistan, but the voice of all Pakistan. Unfortunately, our law enforcement agencies want to shut the voice .

The Pakistani military and government will be answerable to Allah in the after life for keeping 200 million people illiterate, starving, unemployed, and fearful for the lives of their children.

It seems a bit paradoxical that Ms Baloch is willing to accept a US based award when it is precisely US support of Pakistani military that has strengthened it against democratic or librtal meaning or socialist parties. As a Pakistani American and a woman I would support Mahrang against any form of patriarchy and definitely support Baloch nationalism. But I do find it intriguing and suspect when western governments pitch female leadership against their own countries. Could this be covert US support to foment agitation in an already restive province to block Chinese investments. I do hope the Baloch people will not become victims / tools in the hands of another cold war ( this time china and not Russia) . More power to Mahrang if she can tread this balance. I have heard too often from Americans that they can buy off afghans and Pakistan support. It feels like a slap in the face when clearly Pakistanis and afghans are proud, self respecting people. The Pashtuns and Baloch have had a proud history of resisting British, when all the remaining indian subcontinent had folded over to British colonialism. We shod respect this I dependent streak in the Baloch and Pashtun belt.

Mehdi, Thanks for bringing up this issue. I am from Pakistan and this country is now fed up of military and its atrocities of 77 years. First it was Bangalis of East Pakistan, current Bangladesh, now rest of leftover Pakistan. Baluchistan has suffered the longest since 1971. They have committed similar crimes in Karachi and KP province between 1992 and 2024 as well.

There is a deeply sick and troubling mindset in Pakistan, driven by the Pakistan Army. Anyone who stands up against the Army's oppression and fights for their rights is quickly labeled a terrorist or an enemy agent. This approach is deeply concerning.

Thanks, Mehdi, for inviting Dr. Mahrang. It was heartbreaking to hear that her father was killed. She is one of the sane voices in Pakistan fighting for balouch rights. I am not a balouch, but I support her for raising her voice for balouch people within the constitution of Pakistan.

Malala yousazai was also human right activist. She later turned out to be CIA agent. America awarded her nobel price.

The oppression in Pakistan is NOT limited to Balochistan Only! The ruling elite has always oppressed the rest of Pakistan by dividing and targeting (simple divide and rule). Before the age of social media, no one knew about Balochistan and now everyone knows and supports the call against oppression. Targeting Punjab or Punjabi Only is like being intentionally Naive. If you say it's all because of Punjabi's then who is Chief Justice of Pakistan? Who is Qazi Faiz Essa? Who was Ex-Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali? BTW how many Punjabi's are in Punjab? Did anyone have any stats? Most of the Punjab population are migrants from India, and Kashmir, like Karachi, has more educated migrants. The only original cast of Punjabis are Jutts (even Mian Nawaz is of Kashmiri Origin). If you say, Balochistan land is forcefully occupied then explain DHA's, Garrison Colonies, and Askari Society in Punjab? Do you think people sold them happily to them? How Naive! Now they own agricultural lands too. Do you have any idea Why Imran Khan is behind bars? Do you have any idea of their level of control in Punjab? Over 10, 000 people were put in jail in Punjab over the 9th May Drama! Those 10, 000 were NOT from Balochistan. Do you know the entire school system in Punjab is officially closed due to Student protests with over 500 being put behind bars? Now explain we have Balochi Chief Justice of the Supreme Court with more than 10, 000 people inside Punjab behind bars some for more than a year now. So it is NOT about only Balochistan it is about every Pakistani against the oppression of the Ruling Elite. Period.

It would be fair if she would have said that Baloch are killing Punjabi in hundreds when they travel to Balochistan. it would be fair if she would mention Punjabi went to Balochistan to teach them in schools and medical colleges and work in hospitals and administration they kill them and take there properties never pay them rents and when they ask for justice they are kicked out of there own house. This is not story my family has suffered too. Maybe both side need to wake up
