The Indus Civilization: The Discovery That Changes Everything

The ruins of ancient cities along the Indus River reveal only fragments of a vast, enigmatic civilization that thrived 5,000 years ago.
These early inhabitants tamed rivers, created advanced city layouts, and established intricate water systems, as seen in Mohenjo-Daro's public baths and Dholavira's extensive reservoirs.
Despite their achievements, they disappeared without leaving decipherable records. Archaeologists have found artifacts like seals and scripts but remain puzzled by their true significance.
Yet, their legacy endures in India’s water rituals and community practices, reflecting a culture that revered water as a vital, sacred resource.

Absolutely fascinating! It's incredible how the Indus Valley Civilization was so advanced in urban planning and water management over 5, 000 years ago. The fact that we still can't fully decipher their script makes them even more mysterious. Mohenjo-Daro’s baths and Dholavira’s reservoirs show just how important water was to their culture—not just for survival, but spiritually too. Amazing how those values still echo in modern Indian traditions. Great video!

However, "water" was said no less than 5, 745 times in the making of this video. Setting a new world record. Remarkable

This is one of the best and most informative documentaries I have ever seen. I am very interested in ancient cultures and watch a lot of videos, lectures and stories about them. This showed evidence that I have never heard of, like the river still being there but running underground after the earthquake. People were able to make wells and get the water back to plant crops again. And I had heard that the Indus Civilization traded with other cultures they reached by boat, but this shows that they may have migrated to some of those places. Civilizations don't generally die, they move when the land changes. I've always believed that.

The Indus Civilization was so advanced for its time! Their urban planning, drainage systems, and trade networks were centuries ahead of other ancient societies!

This civ ilization was only one city of thousands that spread from what is now Afghanistan and pakistan through india that were all inter related with the same weighs, measures, brick sizes. this civilization never died, people simply migrated as the climate changed and the rivers dried. examination of the seals and artifacts found shows a continuum of civilization into india as we know it today.

Los indígenas de Costa Rica usaban ese tipo de sellos cilíndricos en piedra. Muchos fueron hechos en jade.

Interesting video.
5:41 Unfortunately the mix of French and English ist quite bad. French is too loud; that makes it difficult/tyring to listen to English.

Great presentation of history in India. We should all learn more about others and the past to understand why we are what we are now and why these problems.

City administrators and planners of those days have lot more intelligence and discipline than current ones in the subcontinent.

I like this narrator. He has a very pleasant voice that is a pleasure to listen to. It reminds me of that narrator who did all the narrations of documentaries in the 60s and was very distinguished looking too. I remember as a child, and as I was growing up, how fascinating he would make anything he was talking about. This is a treat.

Qué maravilla cómo lograron domar el agua y almacenarla para poder vivir, y, además regar las siembras todo el año.

The spiritual poetry of the Sarwaswati (Ghaggar)-Sindhu (Indus) civilization is known to us -it is the Rig Veda! The geography and the rivers named in the Rig Veda coincide exactly with that of this civilization and they even place the now disappeared Saraswati between the Jhelum and the Jamuna rivers where it has been rediscovered. The Vedas refer to Haripupiya (Harappa) and one-hundred oar boats. The Vedic word for Man (and Spirit) Purusa - in the sense of Man means City (Pur) dweller - in the sense of Spirit it can been that which is all-pervading or that which dwells in the Citadel of the heart. This debunks the myth concocted by Muller that the Vedic Aryans were some wandering nomads from outside of India.

Reading history haphazardly leads to the dismantling of timelines and distances the origins of civilizations from their source.
Whenever we read a small portion of history and cover it with the veil of regionalism, we distort the entire human heritage.
History must be rewritten from its roots. To solve this intractable crisis, we must return to the deep roots that connect the history of Mohenjo-Darnos to its ancestral environment.
We must go back to before the end of the Ice Age. We will find that the Indus Valley was adjacent to and bordered by the Arabian Gulf. At that time, there was no gulf separating them. Rather, it was a single civilization living on the banks of the Euphrates River, which was replaced over time by a sea gulf.
The Indus Valley was located on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, and the Hijaz (i.e., the Gulf states today) was located on the western bank of the Euphrates River.
