I've been a flute player for over 13 years and tbh I didn't choose the flute, it chose me. Flute is also known to be the hardest to play out of the wind instruments. I agree with the piccolo don't like it either.

When people call a flute a recorder, “how it doesn’t look similar, ” if anything a clarinet is closer to the recorder. Anyways a little to late for me, already a flute player, and I love it.

In India you don't have to worry abt being called gay for playing flute. Co'z we have a very loved god who plays flute too!!!

In my language, the recorder is called "flauta doce" and the flute is called "flauta transversal". Just now I'm discovering they are two completely different instruments.

In german „Flöte“ means also recorder and flute „Blockflöte“ = recorder „Querflöte“ = flute

i believe this is the case in many languages, so this is why flutes are compared to recorders so much
