Bob Dampman is retiring as the assistant Park Manager at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park on the Gulf Coast of Florida. We had a party for him, and among many other things, Bob performed a couple of songs, and this one which he wrote as a summation of his experience as a member of the Florida Park Service. This is one of those special songs. I now have Bob's permission to make it public, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and will share it widely!

I've seen the sun rising and I've watched the sun go down
And I gotta say, they look about the same
And I've seen it from the rivers and I've seen it from the bays
I've even seen it standing in the rain

Well I've been a million places and I've done a million things
And a million more got lost along those trails
I’ve canoed on the Myakka, and I’ve walked the prairie Payne’s,
In Crystal Bay I first put up my sails

In the ten thousand islands, as I slept among the stars
I heard those Florida pirates make a run

I've had an eagle’s eye view of some Seminoles at play
And I’ve stood a thousand feet below some trees

And I’ve tripped on my fair share of cypress knees

And I chased a fire through a fence just to have it chase me back
But that was just our way of having fun
And I put tomorrow on the wings of an eagle as it flew
But I lost it when he flew into the sun
