Anders Sandberg discusses whether transhumanism will save humanity from ourselves.

The future of humanity might not be one we recognise, but that doesn't mean we shouldn’t be thinking about it and trying to shape it now.Transhumanist and philosopher, Anders Sandberg, explores human enhancement elitism, the AI value alignment problem and what he would do if he were near immortal, in this interview with the IAI's Alexis Papazoglou.

00:00 Intro
00:20 Why are philosophers speaking of a transhumanist future?
01:32 Is a transhumanist future an existential threat to humanity?
04:15 Can the distribution of transhumanist enhancement be democratic?
06:34 Is transhumanism a technocratic distraction from real issues?
09:18 What does a philosopher do on an AI advisory board?
11:43 How can we make sure AI is not in opposition to humanity?
14:40 What would you do with you life if it had no end?

Indefinite lifespans/immortality is the way to go, regardless of any ethical objections, because honestly, what's more unethical than allowing folks to die when we have the knowledge and ability to prevent that? Death is the ultimate issue facing living beings, and if we can resolve death, then surely everything else is an afterthought that can be resolved as well in time -- which we'll have plenty of to spare without death. It's unfortunate that some would see transhumanism as a distraction, when it's quite literally a matter of life and death.

I would only comment that all the transhumanists I know are single men in their 40s without children. It's just an interesting correlation!

He looks different to how he looks in Brooklyn 99. He sounds a bit different too. Still very funny though.

I'd also point out that life-extension obsessives continue to die at unremarkable ages, like that handicapped fellow who was scheduled to speak at the RAADfest earlier this month. Reportedly he died in his late 70's about a month ago, and he into cryo here in Scottsdale.

This would be wonderful, I just hope Humanity is ready for this.

Why the hell would you want to live forever in this hell scape of a world. Do you ever actually look around and observe the daily routine horrors of life on this planet! Are you so insulated from real life that you are oblivions to the human and animal suffering that is part and parcel of existence and always will be? That is how life is designed.
Two quotes for your pondering:
“Maybe this world is another planet’s hell.”― Aldous Huxley
"Death may be the greatest of all human blessings." - Socrates

Elon said that at 1st his brain chip will be expensive but soon it'll be as cheap as lasik eye surgery! I would not want to live forever though.... as someone who attempted suicide and am now disabled from it, that'd be my hell.

I doubt a little bit, humans achieved immortality . . then trans-humanized enhanced individuals through some totally 💯 different issues.

And when any robotics issue involved.

And yet in the real world of the United States, life expectancy has been *_declining_* in recent years, and that trend started before the Great Plague. So much for fantasies that we are on the threshold of "living forever."

Everything is perishable and subject to decay save the one who created every atom in the universe. Why on hell do you seek immortality eventhough knowing that the hereafter is the true life ?
