Unfortunately, if this is for binding a quilt, you will end up with bumps where the seamlines are. If you are binding the traditional way, most of the length of the binding is 8 layers of fabric. With this method, at the seamline you'll have 16 layers all at one spot - hard to sew and makes a bump. If you sew your strips together at a 45 degree angle, those layers are spread out across 2" to "2.5" - this is a much smoother transition, doesn't create a bump, and the binding is much easier to sew. I've done it both ways, and quickly saw why I prefer the 45 degree join.
