Yeah my mx5 has this too. Twist knob on or off, push vent around so it blows where i want. All while keeping my eyes on the road. Amazing tech.

That is the worst idea ever. Sheer idiocy. Highway fatalities, particularly pedestrians are way up. Needing to fool around with superfluous garbage while driving are distracting, irritating, and criminally dangerous. More mass tort litigation coming VW’s way! They will deserve it.

You make it sound all futuristic when all they did was put a million electric motors everywhere, instead of a stick out of a vent. And going to by VAG build quality, this should fund their service departments for years to come.

That HVAC UI is still as unintuitive as when I first saw it on Teslas. Since everything you do on it will reposition where you have to touch in order to change the vent orientation, they are never in the same place and will force drivers to take their eyes off the road just to move the vent. You can't rely on muscle memory anymore nor is it something you can move around relatively. Touch screens have to be sensitive to finger tips so any small movements will just move them out of position you want them to be at.

If you want an example, then try to slide a small horizontal numerical bar to exactly 43 from a scale of 0-100. Now add an additional vertical number bar to the equation and that's exactly what you are dealing with.

Doing stuff like this over a touchscreen is so stupid. You lose haptic feedback, forcing you to take your eyes off the road, gaining nothing but cost and complexity. 5 years from now poeple will see how absurd and stupid this is. It will age horribly.

I really don't understand why they need to have the dash so small. The instrument cluster excuse has nothing to do with the dashboard and being driver centric for controls. And having an iPad super glued to the interior spells fad, like automatic seat belts.

So this is what The Drive has been reduced to. A video about a cars A/C in a dealership. The Drive at one point produced some of the best car content on YouTube. I have been a subscriber since the very beginning but to be frank, this is just sad.

I'm apart of the anti touch screen gang. No more touch screens in vehicles. Mazda for an example, has done a great job utilizing no touch screen. Non of their models have it and the UI is very nice/easy to use. Touch screens in vehicles are dangerous.
