I have a 2020 Elantra and love the transmission. I love driving the car so much that I put 2000 miles on the car in about a month.

Just got an Elantra SEL w premium package and it has this transmission and I really like it . After 1200 miles I now average 39.6 mpg in all driving.

I'm leasing the 2020 value edition. Has start button, sun roof, lane keep, lane departure warning that also breaks if you want to switch lanes and it senses a car is coming, collision prevention. Heated seats. The only thing missing from this model and the Limited is that the limited has leather, adaptive cruise control, button controlled seats, and I believe a heads up display and a smaller engine but one that's turbo charged. I got a COVID-19 discount. I cranked the price down to high 18k new. Paid 0 down, leasing it for 36 months, for less than 290 a month with 15k mile allowance. Great compact, nimble car. Has the drive change features, from the sport, smart and normal. I put it on sport, turn off traction control and manually " shift". That little 2.0 feels zippy for 150 hp and 140 torque.

The IVT in my 2020 Hyundai Elantra is ridiculously jerky and unsmooth! On the highway, it's actually really nice. But around town, it bogs down for a second or two when I first press the accelerator, then harshly jerks to 2000 RPM, causing the car to buck. It has no trouble accelerating once it actually hits 2000 RPM, but there's a flat spot around 1500 RPM that creates poor drivability at low speeds. It also refuses to decelerate while coasting. My car is great otherwise...but that IVT, not smooth at all.

@0:55 Yes, the 6-speed automatic in the 2017-2018 Elantra behaves like this. It's a very odd sensation while driving. I've never owned a car with automatic transmission that had this feeling and I dislike it. It feels like someone is shifting a manual transmission.

Great that Hyundai came back from GDI, time will tell how will be the CVT reliability, I hope that it will be good. (Fix cost and easy-to-fix will be decisive for me).

I have a 2020 Hyundai Accent SEL, and I'm getting over 50 mpg on the highway, and around 40 driving around town. What's not to like?

hyundai and all manufacturers for that fact should offer manuals as special order. i'll sign a disclaimer on the fuel mileage

And will it last any longer than existing CVT transmissions that seem to fail at around 100, 000km costing a fortune to fix?

IVT means slower acceleration at red light, less reliable than a normal manual gearbox, but gas mileage is good on highway

I love my Kia Seltos S. The IVT is smooth and has plenty of pep. Hyundai/Kia nailed it with this CVT excuse me IVT.

My "go to guy" for car advice is Scotty Kilmer. To paraphrase him, "CVTs are crap." I drive a '16 Elantra with an old-school AT. No complaints. I'll wait 'til these so-called IVTs have been out 5-7 yrs and proven themselves. Looks like my next ride will not be a 2021 Elantra. 😧

Wow! I bought the new 2018 Elentra with the dual clutch 7 speed automatic, primarily because it didn't have the CVT / IVT style transmission. I love it! Its characteristics are somewhat like a manual that you don't have to shift yourself. And boy is it quick for a 1.6L. When I buy again, I guess I'll be searching another model or manufacturer that doesn't install these transmission. ...Isn't it an Oxymoron to install a CVT / IVT transmission into a car that badges "Sport"? Though it appears Hyundai isn't doing it with their 2020 Sport model, I do believe many other manufacturers are. There is little chance these transmissions will survive very many hard starts that younger generation put these cars through, especially in hilly locals. I'll gladly give up a mpg or two for a reliable transmission. Once out of warranty, the car owner is in for a real shocker as these transmissions being to fail!

About to rent one.. wouldn't buy one though. CVT/IVT tech is a nightmare to fix once it breaks

The value edition also comes with this (IVT) Intelligent Variable Transmission? What does it mean when you say that the fuel economy was raised? It costs less or more to refuel the tank? How do I change the welcome chime in 2020 Hyundai Elantra Value Edition Trim Level?

How % significant IVT is, compared to the other transmission?

You forgot to mention that these types of CVT's barely last 150, 000 Km. Most of them have problems in less than 100K Km of driving. Toyota where the only manufacturer who got this right, but I still prefer Mazda's approach; They managed to make an improved planetary transmission (Regular A/T) that is just as economical as CVT's, but much more reliable.
