You DO NOT have to sideload and open the phone to potentially dodgy apps. The official Apple way is to find someone with XCode installed on their Mac (or install it yourself but it takes ages), connect the phone by USB, and then use XCode to put the phone in Developer Mode. This video is for people who don't want to or can't do this.

If you have iOS 15 or lower you don't need Developer Mode. The phone already grants access to the apps you develop locally on Xcode or Expo whatever. It's like the phone is perpetually in Developer Mode. I have a perfectly working iPhone 6 (maxed out at iOS 12.5) and iPhone 6S (maxed out at iOS 15.8) and I can run my own apps no problem.

I have the same problem. I v solved this problem pretty naturally. Just connect iPhone with MacBook, open your project with xCode, open manage target device in xCode, click trust in iPhone then the developer mode is shown in the iphone settings

I installed Xcode Beta 16. After that, I was able to select Developer Mode.
