Proper Foot Placement For Gas And Brake Pedals-Driving Lesson For Beginners

In this video, I go over the proper foot placement for the gas and brake pedals. I show you how I place my right foot and use it to operate the pedals in a safe manner for driving. Obviously everyone's foot will be a different size and the pedals will be placed differently from one car to the next. With that being said, these are just my suggestions and will have to be slightly altered for your specific vehicle and situation. It is a simple driving lesson that is geared towards beginners, but experienced drivers can definitely benefit from watching it as well!

I’m glad I watched this video. My leg was hurting so bad from not putting my heel down. I’m 37 and finally learning to drive. 😂

I am about to drive for the first time with my permit soon, and this is very helpful for visualization! Thank you for the video!

Heel should be planted in front of the break pedal on the floor board, foot pivoting from break to gas. Foot shouldn't be floating- may cause whiplash when needing to suddenly break. Use your big toe to apply pressure.

You should be able to be plant your heel and pivot if you move your foot a little bit forward. I've heard that when people get older, they can get confused and hit the wrong pedal when they are in emergency situations, so moving the whole foot to press the gas and brake pedals is not recommended.

There's a bit of misinfo in this video:
1. gas does NOT just make the car go, it also controls the speed and allows you to do a bit of engine braking
2. ideally, the heel should always be in the same place, you just pivot your foot to reach gas and brake - remember that because the brake pedal is closer towards you, you don't need to align your foot on the brake perfectly as you're unlikely to hit gas anyway. for instance i press the brake with just the edge of my foot, for faster switching between gas and brake

but hey you're not teaching to drive with both feet which is good in itself

Feet is too short small, can not reach to both gas, break pedals alternately.
