Dude, now you're talking sense. This is a real turntable.
Such a shame it's only possible to give one thumbs up.

Just use one of the case screws on the receiver for ground, always works.

I just got the rt85 this week. I don't have any vinyl yet Ha. I have assembled and connected it to my receiver but still need to make adjustments, your videos along with others will help with that enormously. I am building my home audio system again after many years away, while I've been trying to keep it a budget system, the turntable is one place I felt I needed to invest more money. I was able to get a discount on an open box unit from Fluance, and upon receiving it looked in every way to be an unopened new unit.

I’m still more of a novice but I love collecting and making an occasion of listening to my vinyl. I’m currently sporting a Pro-ject VT-eR vertical table, because I really don’t have much room to play with in my little office cave that I’ve setup. I almost always listen with earphones as well. I really enjoy your channel, and thank you for introducing me to Vinyl Moon! Thanks!

Really like your videos! Thanks for doing these!

One point: Use the bubble level on the platter, not the plinth. They may not be parallel and the platter is what you want to be level.

I think the optional auto shut-off feature should have been worthy of mention (especially while you were back there going over the connection points). This is a brilliant idea for those who would've preferred an automatic model. The other thing I like about this turntable is the removable head shell. Personally, I love having a dedicated mono cartridge. Having the removable head shell allows for a quicker switch from one cart to the other than models with a one piece arm, assuming you are knowledgeable enough to set the recommended tracking force. And I'm actually glad they left off a phono preamp on this model. There are so many good ones on the market. Great review overall. Thanks.

Technics sl-1300 mki. Favorite feature... peace of mind knowing that this table will last for many more decades.

You hook the ground wire to the preamp. You don't need to hook a ground to the receiver\amp. Phono preamps would be useless if you needed a ground for them. Because the only receivers and amps with ground connections have phono preamps built in. FYI.

I love my RT-81, which I purchased, and I love my RT-85, which Fluance sent in for review. I kept the Ortofon blue on the 85 and put my AT440mla on my 81. Fantastic turntables, and in my opinion, knocks the competition out of the park.

Thank you for review. I was tired of my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable and ordered the Fluance RT85 as a replacement turntable. I just got it in the mail today and so far I am very impressed with its build quality and sound. I hope it holds up for a long long time.

I had a AT-LP120, AT-LP5, Pioneer PL-990, but there was something wrong with every one of them so i decided to go with the turntable that i wanted from the start. Technics-SL1210GR + Ortofon Blue and could not be happier!

The RT85 looks awesome and have read great reviews about it!

If I'm using an integrated amplifier or a stereo receiver with a built-in phono preamp, I don't need a separate one, right? Especially if the built-in one is high quality?

I own the RT 85 and it’s magnificent! I had no need for the preamp as my receiver has a phono input. Also, there is no need for the protractor because the cartridge comes of course, you like to fiddle. Bottom line, it is a beautiful looking (I got the gloss piano black version) and wonderful sounding turntable. Highly recommended.

I have a Debut Carbon DC and to be honest the way I feel about turntables is that the less features the better. It means that more of your money is going straight into the sound quality

My high school friend in Seattle (class of 1972) and I both own Audio Technica AT LP120 usb's. For me, it's one of three turntables I own, but it was his only turntable. However, he got the bug for something better and I recommended the Fluance RT85. He picked it up a few weeks ago. I visited him last weekend (I live in Kentucky now) and we had a play off of the two turntables. He runs them both through a Radio Shack STA-960 receiver from 1981 70's and uses the AT 120's internal pre-amp through AUX to plug them both in. The AT Preamp is a known weakness of that TT.

The sound difference with the Ortofon Blue on the Fluance was noticeable easily to both of us. He dearly loves that turntable. Meanwhile, I told him to run the LP120 through the phono pre-amp on his Radio Shack receiver and run the Fluance through the phono pre-amp of his Marantz 2230 (1972). Those are the perfect combo's in his systems. IMO
'
But the funny part is that you and he did the exact same starting point and the exact same upgrade. And if one of my "good" TT's failed, I'd be right behind him. I wear hearing aids. They are all "good enough" for me now

Just upgrade from a Technics SL-1900 (thift store find back in high school) to a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit. I love it's acrylic platter, carbon fiber tone arm, and it has the ability to switch the speed with a button instead of actually touching the belt (I also like that the belt isn't exposed. Not that it makes a difference I just don't like tables with exposed belts) I also went ahead and upgraded the included Ortofon Red to the Blue and WOW. The blue is vastly superior to the Red in a lot of ways. Highly recommend!
