Part that is missing in this video:

If you DO have an amp with a dedicated PHONO input, you do not need a separate preamp and you connect your turntable directly to the amp on the PHONO input.
If your turntable has this PHONO/LINE switch and your amp does not have a PHONO input, set the switch to LINE and connect the turntable to a LINE/AUX input.

I just started working on my setup to play some records and I was super overwhelmed and mildly confused by every single guide I found. It was like there were constant elements that just weren't explained. This is the only video I found that actually explained every single question I had. Thank you!

Dude, I am addicted to your channel. I'm a 20year old kid from Romania and this January I visited L.A. and ran across this shop that I've never heard of called Amoeba 😂 I think you know where this is going. I ended up spending about $200 on records there, despite me not even owning a record player. Just being in Amoeba made me want to listen to vinyl and I totally love it. Of course, after returning to my Country, I got the Audio Technica LP60X and started falling in love with this whole thing of listening to music on vinyl. Since then I am watching your videos basically everyday, and I think you're awesome. Thank you for uploading such great and enjoyable content. Now I want to get my mom a record player also, so she could listen to her old vinyl collection gathering dust on a shelf. Anyway, you're awesome! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the tip on grounding. My receiver is really basic and doesn't have an actual ground thing. I'd be lost rn without your channel!

I'm an old, old guy who LOVES music, and vinyl. Sadly, I'm a dope when it comes to setting up something like this.
Your tutorial is GREAT! You cover everything in depth, without making me feel stupid. You also have a terrific way of s l o w I n g d o w n and explaining things fully....
Thanks for this video!

I'm really glad that there are easy to reach guides for people who want to build their own turntable and know what parts should they have. Your videos have already helped me build my first (if not counting the old crosley-esque one that I had before) vinyl player last year big thanks!

Hello, I just wanted to add a little thing. For the better conductivity of the GND (if your amp don't have a dedicated connector [3:32]) the srew method should be good, but I highly recommend to remove the paint with a piece of sendpaper and change the screws to unpainted ones. This is actually improves a lot to decrease the noise. Thanks for reading it.

oh my god, thank you SO MUCH for throwing in the "side note" on switching the button from phono to line if the volume is too low — that was the problem I've been trying to solve for HOURS, and this fixed it instantly! 😂 THANK YOU!!! 💜💜💜

This guy is ace - really approaches the problem with a noob mindset - removes all the mystery from the setup. Short, snappy and high energy too. Excellent video 10/10

I really really really appreciate this video! I got my turntable, amp and speakers today with a bag of copper wiring, no idea what i was doing. I had never worked with a turntable before, i had never worked with speakers before, or even an amp, and after watching this video i have a flawlessly running turntable setup beautifully blasting my motorhead vinyl disc!

Well, noticed that the video will be good just after the song of the day was announced (which, by the way, is magnificent). Even though I do know how to connect everything, I still watch it as the video is really entertaining, good job!

For those with vintage equipment, don't be confused. Current turntables require putting a "phono amp" in them, or as a peripheral, as the ancient art of a phono step up on your old school receiver, or "pre-amp" (that input the phono AND tuner, tape/aux, aux2, & later CD etc.) & connected to the power amp, seems to be gone. When CDs came out & vinyl disappeared (sort of) in the 1990s - receivers & the old school preamps went "Phono"-less - as far as inputs. Preamps and receivers became all "LINE" level. Cartridge is low level (stylus exciting tiny tiny spirals) so requires a step up. Turntables never used to come with their own step up device (called a "preamp" in this video) in the analog era, as the old school preamp or receiver had the phono step up input for that built in already.
Note one exception to above: Even back then, if you had a high end moving coil cartridge, which was even lower input level than the moving magnet type we normally used, you would need a "PRE-preamp", as they were called - ie additional step up device BEFORE the phono input of the receiver/preamp.

Been watching youtube videos for like a decade, and more often than not guides like this on different things. This is BY FAR the most helpful guide ive ever come across. Extremely helpful.

Thanks for the tips! I’m new to the turntable world and the tips about the passive and active speakers was needed! I didn’t know there was a difference!

Like so many of the comments below you have explained with aplomb what I thought was complicated and made it stress free and uncomplicated; I have just purchased a new turntable and Amp and Receiver, technology and me are wary of each other and so I end up riddled with angst and confusion, but you have brought equanimity and I can feel my heart and pulse returning to relative normality- thank you and keep up your excellent and informative tutorials. Best David

A good video and very helpful. I plan on putting together a nice analog sound system after I move to a new house later this year. Considering that I've spent the last 10 years listening music through my smartphone and earbuds, I think the difference will be incredible.

And besides, vinyl is the wave of the future for those of us who plan on leaving the digital grid behind!

Song of day, Burn by Deep Purple.

Lol, I'm probably the only one who remembers that song.
