I have had an Orbit turntable for nearly two years. I have been delighted with it. It brings out the best in all my records, from 200-gram audiophile pressings to inferior pressings to old monaural eatly micro groove LPs that are slightly older than I am.

I got a U-Turn Orbit Plus for my birthday last year, with the same cartridge used here and it made me love music more. I went from having one record that I might listen to on my dad's turntable occasionally to having a setup in my room with a Yamaha CR-240 and some Tannoy bookshelf speakers and over sixty records. Its a fantastic turntable.

The Orbit has been at the top of my short list for turntable upgrades for awhile. After this review, I'm even more sure it's the right choice for me.

I have the Orbit Special...walnut plinth, acrylic platter, Ortofon 2M Red cartridge.  I run it through a Bellari VP130 tube pre-amp and a vintage Sansui 8080db receiver (yes, I know the receiver has a phono stage input, but I like the tube pre-amp).  All of that run through Paradigm 7se MKII speakers.  When my wife makes me turn it down, I use my Grado SR325e headphones.  Personally, I think the U-Turn is fantastic for the money.  Most of my records are vintage and not pristine, and I really don't care if other turntables can offer me an extra 0.1 Hz above a dog whistle.  I like vinyl because it's comforting...because it forces you to *want* to listen to the music,  and the Orbit provides all the listening pleasure I could ask for.  I could afford a much higher end turntable, but the Orbit is exactly what I want.  I'm a happy listener.

Damn the Torpedoes is an album everyone should own, imho. I tried to get back into vinyl with vintage, but bombed out on my first/last attempt. The market is pricy and those units are old; you are taking a gamble going that route. Oh, and no, I have no interest in learning how to take apart, fix, an reassemble a turntable. So I walked into a shop that carries new and refurbished turntables, and walked out with a slightly used Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (with the platter upgrade). The man said that he had no idea why it hadn't yet sold, as it was the best value TT in the shop. Then a coworker said 'probably the color; green'. I didn't care about that; it's a great turntable.

Yes. Completely agree about “buying vintage”. Sure there’s lots of great vintage gear but they usually fail and are expensive to replace. Try finding a good, affordable receiver without blown fuses and impossible to solder parts.
